I remember a while back we were talking about making a wiki? Any news on that? I think it would be very useful for beginners and it would stop a lot of questions getting repeated over and over again. For things like the Movie Method and RTK lite etc, it would be a lot easier to get information about it on a wiki, rather than having to search through forums.

That's a great idea, but it would need to be semi-official to be truly useful I think, such as Fabrice linking it on the main site.

If I remember rightly I think it was Faburice that suggested it.

I think a Koohii Wiki would be awesome.  Especially since it would also be very easy to keep a record of threads that are incredibly useful, but not really the type of thread you would sticky.

We can create a new wiki for Koohii here:

As a newbie to this site, and most of the methods being discussed here, I think a wiki could have great potential. People often use abbreviations on the forums, such as KO2001 or i + 1, which make searching for topics on the forums less than ideal.

It's thanks to my lurking around that I found out about KO2001/Anki. Originally I just saw "KO2001" and "Anki" and completely dismissed it, then happen to see a post talking about the KO2001 spreadsheets for easy importing into Anki.

I was also literally on the verge of quitting RtK (I'm using a custom Japanese/English hybrid RtK in Anki), and might have never heard about KO2001, if it weren't for a little "luck" in finding threads that happen to be on the top at the time.

Lurking is a good thing anyways. I think the high lurk dependency of this forum is what contributes to it being a mostly civil place.

That and fabrice's willingness to ban people/close threads smile

http://rtk.wikia.com/wiki/Acronyms

Someone make that better, I'm lazy (and don't use any of the popular forum resources in general).

Posts: 1803 roll Just poking fun!

What I really meant by lurking, was more along the lines of viewing the forums a couple times (and almost never visiting again). However group efforts truly really are amazing, and they don't even need many people to add very much before it grows into something huge... ramble ramble...

*poof* lurk mode activate! cool

Jarvik7 ≈ 2 posts/day average
Tobberoth ≈ 7 posts/day average

We need a posts/day under "User activity" big_smile (I just did rough guesses in my head, I could be way off)

what is a wiki? how come the pages are empty? do we just link good posts to it or something?

They're empty because no-one has written anything in them yet. I think this is most useful for beginners just started with heisig's method, and the sentence method. You could write about how to use subs2srs, or about what the heisig method is etc. Just stuff to help out beginners so that we get less noob questions here on the forums big_smile

Hopefully Faburice will be able to link to the wiki on the frontpage big_smile

And a multiple choice test on said FAQ, before you're allowed to post in the forum.

I'm impressed that both Jarvik 7 and Tobberoth continue to make very high-quality posts despite making a lot.  The more I post on this forum, the more downhill my posts seem to go.  This one is included in that!

I think part of it might be that my English really has gotten a little slower and a bit funky since coming to Japan a year ago.  I don't know if that's from using it less or from reading really bad English from my students all day.

I didn't forget about it and I'm glad to see there's still interest in the idea.

However I'm very sorry but we're on a project with Kafka-esque management at work, which saps all my energy. So I just didn't find the energy and motivation to do anything for all of August. That and also having no Yoga class or other ways to cool down during August didn't help. I'm just waiting for our project to miserably fail at the impossible deadline for next week, and then pray for some serious reshuffling here of our team.. that's the stupidest project I've ever been on. On the plus side, I think I mentioned this before, I'm learning tons about the YUI framework.

So yeah I can't promise anything right now, but I think it would be much nicer for a wiki to be hosted on the koohii server, definitely. That wikia site has more ads than content X_X

I just don't want to promise anything cause even if it takes an evening to install a wiki and upload it I have no idea when I could do it.

On the other hand I suppose you'll be able to move the content to the RevTK-hosted wiki later if you want, and you can use this opportunity now with Wikia to have an outline of the wiki's structure: main topics, organisation of the homepage etc.

I think it's a great idea.

PPS: I'll sticky this topic for now and so I won't forget about it wink   I suggest to use it to continue sharing ideas about organizing the Wiki (currently the one at Wikia).

Fabrice if you're in Brussels just step outside to cool down - it's most likely raining wink

On a serious note good news for the wiki.  Will do my best to contribute.

Ah, yeah, I thought hosting it here would be better too (that's why I didn't make one at wikia to begin with). I'm sure there's some way to export the data from the wikia version, so when we do manage to get it hosted here, hopefully we can just copy and paste it.
