I just got halfway through as well! I had a lapse shortly before the 1000 mark, I spent a couple weeks having to deal with several hundred expired and failed kanji. I'm staying on top of things much better now, I'm almost at 1200 and everything is green. I have to review about 50 orange kanji a day at this rate, but I'm making sure to have every kanji have really vivid stories. Since I do that, I can get through reviews in about 15 minutes with about 70% pass rate. I hope I can keep this up!

GUYS GUYS GUYS
HITTING HALFWAY FEELS REALLY GOOD

Kudos to all who have hit halfway and beyond. Some of these kanji are just STUPID (totally bizarre keywords with like a billion primitives that make it nigh impossible to create a good story), but that just makes them more satisfying to CRUSH.

ONLY A WHOLE BUNCH MORE TO GO

I'm at 1250, made pretty good progress to 1000 but the last 250 have been slow going.... I read farther up thread that several people hit a wall at 1300 so maybe I'm just plateauing a little early.   However, I noticed the Twitter thread and started following a dozen other RTKers so seeing their Twitters should help keep me reviewing daily, even if adding new Kanji is going slowly...

お前らの漢字は完全に我々の物だぜ。
I have passed 1000, but I haven't felt that massive euphoric rush yet,I guess it takes a while to sink in

I stopped just before the halfway point (950) to review all of the kanji and make sure that I can write them PERFECTLY (got reading down but...), so much as a non connecting line gets a failed in my book. My non Japanese studies have been getting in the way, thank goodness spring break is here the week after next so I can finally hit Kanji at full force again!

You will get it when you finish for like 10minutes ..then you will highly under estimate just how many kanji you really do know...at least that is what i do from time to time

Finished 1025 yesterday. Took me about 2 months to get here; I'm hoping the next half only takes another 2. I'm following the AJATT program, and I'm really looking forward to getting started on sentences. It's also exciting to recognize more and more Kanji in gMail and some of the other online websites I've switched to Japanese.

This is my first post on this board but I've been here for a long time.

Joining in with the rest of the half-wayers. I've just gotten a sudden burst of kanji-learning energy these past few weeks. It's taken me seven months to get this far, but I've remained diligent with my reviews and try to fit in as much kanji as time allows.

Anyhow, hurray.

Yep, I finished 1026 this last night. with no fails in retention  fortunately.

I feel mildly euphoric, but kind of relieved that after 1000 characters, I can still remember them. I never thought I could remember so much stuff. That's what amazes me the most, I guess. watch the reviews spin, and see the kanji come to my brain, even after some weeks without seeing them is inspiring.

Now, back to work...

Has anyone else used dampe from Zelda for those graveyard kanji? The SUN song is under the graveyard (tomb). It's perfect! big_smile I've been using games and real people as memeorics. So far it has been working.

HALF WAY... WOOOO!

Well done everyone else who has come this far, I'm feeling rather proud of myself smile

Reached 1026 a couple of days ago and have today managed to clear my epic fail pile. Thanks Fabrice for such an excellent site and to everyone whose stories I've used thus far. I don't think I could have got this far without you!

Right-o, onwards to 2042!

Finally @1026. It feels really good to be half way through the first book. I love it when people give me positive comments and give me hope and courage to continue. Like much of you I just can't wait to start doing sentences.

Yeah baby!

Been there too, but it wasnt that great of a feeling. Guess since I feel like a turtle and because I have such difficulties since a long time (especially mixing up keywords with same meaning, abstract words....). Also, at first I was so fast, now that I'm so slow because of Uni, 1000 more feel like a long time big_smile

Finally past that halfway mark (at least to the point where I've added the stories, and un-suspended them in anki ^_^). I'm hoping this last part won't take as long as the first part did though. >.<

I'm at the 1,100 or so mark.  So I'm there with you, but right at the time I hit 1,000 I was busy with other things and a little lazy for a week or two and now my review and error piles are HUGE.  400-odd kanji to review and at least 200 mistakes to review.  The missed kanji I will do over and over and over until that pile is empty.  Only then do I learn and input new kanji.

Once you hit the 750 mark or so the reviews become really substantial.  I can only imagine they'll be worse once I finish!

So finally I've got some time off from work and I'll be catching up all weekend.  Hopefully by Sunday or so I'll be back to hitting the new kanji.  Wish me luck!

My first entry. I'm half way through. big_smile
I hope to finish the book as soon as possible to really feel the benefits in studying Japanese.

This page is really a big help to keep going on. Thank you for all your stories!

Omedetou minna!  I got a huge surge of motivation after reaching the halfway point, hope the same happens to you, and that Akahige, you are caught up soon and inputting new stories. Gambatte smile

Such terrible envy... I'm only slowly reaching 500, oh well. It's true that this system works best the faster you go, 100 better than 50 and 150 a day would be best. All the parts of previous Kanji reinforce all the new Kanji. I have great admiration for Mr. Heisig, who devised the system from scratch, all by himself and manage to learn all 2000 Kanji in about a month. Remarkable.

Jeromin, 500 is a nice milestone, don't worry about doing 150 a day, if you can fit in 25 a day you'll be at 1024 before you know it!  Set a reasonable goal and they you will feel great when you are able to do more.  I took a 7 months to finish, which averages out to a pace of about 10 a day... mostly I put in new kanji on the weekend and just reviewed during the week.
