Yeah! Just finished lesson 27, after 3 weeks of studying. The hardest part was deciding on who to choose for 人.
Many thanks to people contributing the stories here, it helped me with a lot of difficult kanji smile

Wow, if that guy is American, I'm really impressed by his pronounciation, I've never heard an American speak Japanese so well. The flag in the back makes me thing otherwise, but his English sounds extremely good as well so... His first mimic of somone bad at japanese was spot on though XD

He's Canadian, as you can tell when he describes his girlfriend in a later video.  Also the accent sounds Canadian.

Hey, just reached the halfway point.  Thanks to all for their good stories, many of which i poached.
I figured i would do 500 kanji a month, and finish in 4 months, but it looks like I'm slower than that, averaging about 350-400 a month, maybe 20 a day on weekdays only, and big reviews at 600, 750-ish, 950-ish.  If I'm lucky I'll finish sometime at the end of January.  That's fine with me.
BTW Fabrice, your site rocks!

Just finished lesson 27. Thanks for all the stories! (I would use the Mr T stories but I have no idea who he is.)

Anyone else feels that the keywords get harder as the book progresses?

For which primitives do you use Mr T, Data and Spiderman?

Mr T was used for person
Data was used for state of mind

Oh, and I did do a google search for Mr T but realised I didn't recognized him, so no chance to use him as a primitive

Good. You shouldn't identify a radical with someone just because many people here did it, that's not the point. The point is to use something YOU have a strong connection to, so you can remember the story better. I used Data for state of mind since I love Star Trek, but I didn't use Mr T for person since I don't like him. I used my character in WoW. As for thread, I stick with the meaning of thread unless it's much easier to make a story with spider-man (which it often is).

On my third attempt at completing RTK I have, for the first time reached the half-way mark. I put this down to 3 factors:

1. I'm on a four month holiday so I have plenty of free time to devote.
2. I'm not in Japan this time - While I was in Japan I felt devoting time to learning the Kanji was a waste of time when I could be learning conversation skills which I used daily.
3. This site. The stories that everyone has contributed are such a great resource and make the process both easier and more enjoyable.

I hope the stories I have contributed may similarly help other down the line.

Thanks again to everyone and I'll see you all on the other side!

Well I finally hit the half-way mark today. I started using this site late Feb of '08, so it's taken far longer than I expected, even throwing in the 5 weeks I had to take off since then for various traveling.

Heisig is very doable, and this site helps tremendously. It's just a question of time and mental-RAM. I've picked up a little speed since I finished training for and completing my first marathon a couple months ago. At my current pace though I still won't finish until tax-time. I'd hoped to be done in one year--we'll see if things pick up!

Thanks for all your stories and keeping the forums alive!

Finally hit the half way point, yay! Feels like it's taken forever, but that might be because I started a while ago, stopped, then restarted again recently. Time to power through the second half.

I am half way through RTK Lite (subset of around 1.100 JLPT 2 Kanjis). Hope that counts, too .... Stories from kanji.koohii.com help very, it makes learning new kanjis much much faster! Also reviewing is so much important, the more you review the better it is.

Did Lessons 28, 29, 30 today. Putting me just past halfway. I can honestly say it would not have been possible without Reviewing the Kanji, not to mention RtK for that matter.

So far, so good. Gonna power through the rest of the book. 100 a day. However, with my brother coming to town tomorrow, the holidays, and New Years parties, I hope I can keep my pace strong. I decided yesterday to go for all 3007.

Finished 1026 today, after two days of holiday slack (doing nothing but keeping up with reviews).  Thank you, everyone for all your great stories and community; hopefully the next 1016 will go quicker now that I have the hang of it!

WOOHOO  Hit Frame #1026 end of Lesson #27

Good Milestone for me, great to post in here.
Would have been here 2 weeks earlier if it weren't for me getting horribly ill, AND moving my Family to a different city at the same time ( 1 of those weeks I had close to no sleep, was very bad )

All excuses aside, I am half way and while I still have some time off I am trying to power through as many frames as I can keep up with on the SRS

Thanks everyone!

I hear ya Dustin - just hit the Umbrella but moving to Japan delayed me a couple of weeks, had a pile of 600 odd expired kanji to get through but got that down and burned through lesson 27.  Not a bad feeling...

Crap, didn't realize there was a thread for this.  Well, anyways, I passed the halfway mark this past week.  I'm at like 1273 now.  I want to finish by the end of January.

Just finished learning 1021! It's taken just over 1.5 months but I have a feeling that's the hardest part out the way now. Still got a rather large stack of fails that just won't go away but I guess it's just a matter of time. Good luck to the others who are in the same position as myself big_smile

Just finished learning 1026 (did over 100 today, so tired). But everything's in the green wink

Did exactly 28 days over it .
