Hello everyone.
I have successfully put the software "Duokan", made by a Chinese company and designed to show Japanese / Korean and 2 flavours of Chinese "properly", on my 2nd generation Kindle 2 Internationl ( B003...serial number ).
The sites...

The install makes it a "dual-boot" Kindle, and the OS "Duokan" does not interfere with normal Kindle operation.
It's features are not identical to the Kindle's - it has some menu features that the Kindle does not, and visa-versa (remember I am talking about Kindle 2, but Duokan works on all models from "2" onwards, according to the site / blogs).
This is NOT a post about PDF files on a Kindle.
I use "Calibre", also free, to put "other than Amazon" files on my Kindle, and it converts them for you (html to kindle; epub to Kindle etc etc).
Ebook features like bookmarks, searching etc are built-in.

From what I hear, there is Japanese text support and they can use PDFs. I think I'll be getting a kindle 4 tomorrow, the basic model, if I remember I'll try and see how if it works alright.
Edit: I managed to get through the Aozora Bunko website, download Kokoro in .HTML format, convert it it .mobi and it seems to display alright, seems like it'll work but I haven't tried it on a Kindle yet.
