Hi RTKers,

I recently bought Remembering the Kanji Vol. 1, 6th edition, and it bugged me that the frame numbers don't match up with this site, so I made a tool to convert them.

For example, I'm on frame 294. If I enter 294, my tool generates a list I can paste into the Custom selection box, like this:

1-45, 2464, 46-52, 2155, 53-54, 2178, 55-56, 2736, 57-103, 2169, 104-117, 2195, 118-122, 3008, 123-133, 2466, 134-138, 2327, 139, 2316, 140, 2296, 141-154, 2190, 155-205, 2480, 206-217, 2445, 218-225, 2373, 226-252, 2071, 253-259, 2567, 260, 2450, 261-276

I'm not 100% sure of the accuracy for all 2200 frames, but I did my best to check it. Let me know if you run into any problems!

Awesome. I have the 5th edition, but I think you just made the lives of people who have the 6th edition much easier.

I think this should be stickied, or possibly you could work with Fabrice at getting this integrated into the site?

Thanks! I hope people find it useful. It's been working well for me so far, and I've used it to add lessons 13-16 to my flashcard stack. (I love the site, by the way... I should've mentioned that before!)

I wrote the converter in JavaScript, so the source code is there if Fabrice or anybody else wants to adapt it. It should be fairly self-explanatory, but if not, I'd be happy to answer any questions. I don't know if Fabrice already has something else in mind, though.

The book only covers 2000 something but the frames go up to 3000?

Also is there any chance the site will be made compatible with 6th edition? Too much work?

@Ozarm I've been on a hiatus for a while now, and 6th edition support does require updating all sql querries to support multiple frame number orderings.

Looking at this table I've noticed a few mix-ups.

What follows is a list of pairs of frame numbers of the old editions which need to be swapped.

0217 2445
0584 2159
0601 2368
1235 2241
1394 2422
2675 1871
2039 2038

It would be nice if someone in the possession of the 6th edition could verify this. Using the sample PDF I could only lookup the first pair.

姻 is 627 and 咽 is 628.

誌 is 646 and 芯 is 647.

強 is 1321 and 弥 is 1322.

懸 is 1495 and 遜 is 1496.

舷 is 2015 and 般 is 2016.

潟 is 2195 and 丹 is 2196.

In the 6th edition there are additional kanjis that are not on the list. Or am I wrong?

in the pdf sample, the kanji 貼 has the meaning "post a bill" not "affix".

The English meaning for 填 should be "inlay". Not "stuff up".

gomtuu, I'm using the 6th edition and this converter has been terrific.  Thank you so much for putting this together and making it available.
