Most efficient way? Probably hacking the game and extracting the text :p
Of course its probably not feasible for most people. But if you can search around and look for some games that have actually had translation projects, someone has already done the dirty work in those cases, and a little searching and asking around might get you what you need.

For phoenix wright, there is actually a program out there that can edit the script of the game. Sounds like it would let you get at the Japanese text pretty easily.
