Sometimes I like to print out "study sheets" to take with me.  In order to do that, I needed the Kanji to display on my failed list.  Here's what the script looks like on my screen.  Hopefully it works for you too.  I'm no programmer, so don't expect much.

I use it to modify the http://kanji.koohii.com/failedkanjilist.php page.

Already mentioned in the August 26 update thread, but this is meant to keep things a bit organized. Updates to Copy Story and Create Story Links to cope with the changes to the study page.

The latter's version 0.4 adds the ability to include pictures in your stories inside your private story area as well among the shared stories. To do so, enclose the url to an image in curly brackets. Thus {http://static.userscripts.org/images/gravatar_default.png?1185928759} will show up as http://static.userscripts.org/images/gravatar_default.png?1185928759 after pressing the Update Story button. The image itself is clickable and will link to the original image location. Be reasonable with the size and content of the pictures you include in stories you share.

I'm just stating my personal preference here, but... having seen that some members are annoyed just from reading other's stories and the ensuing mental images that cropped up in their mind; I think a link to the picture rather than directly showing the picture would be more appropriate.

And I would be interested into other user's views on this, since I am slowly agreeing to the idea of picture links.. but as for "official" implementation, it will need a mature reporting system because I'm sure users will post images that others will find offensive.

The image as is in the private story area and as a link in the shared stories section? Sounds like a decent compromise. I'll give it some thought.

Updates to Story with Line Breaks, Substitute keywords and Insert Story Links and Pictures.

The update to Line Breaks reenables Ricardo's story size check alert. The Substitute keywords update avoids an error message showing up in the error console; there's no real need to download it as the script works fine as is. I've moved the discussion for Story Links and Pictures to the Pictures for keywords thread.

Opera scripts finally also updated. More on that in the User Javascript thread.

After reformatting the hard disk and redownloading all my scripts, I noticed that the Line Breaks script no longer worked. The reason being that the include line had reverted to the obsolete http://kanji.koohii.com/study.php* url instead of http://kanji.koohii.com/study*. Script updated and polished a bit. Instead of downloading, you can solve this directly by opening the Greasemonkey manage script dialog, selecting this script and editing the url appearing in the top right list.

Shouldn't have taken three months to discover. If a script doesn't operate correctly, don't hesitate to contact the author(s).

For reference, I updated the Change kanji font, Substitute keywords and Insert Story Links and Pictures (Firefox only) scripts to act on the 'My stories' pages. For comments, see this message.

Hi,

I've been using the kanji links script for a couple weeks and its been a great help for me, but suddenly stopped working today. Not sure why, tried the simple things, restarting everything, reinstalled the script, then uninstalled and reinstalled greasemonkey but still not having any luck. Any ideas why?

I seem to be having a problem with Ricardo's Kanji Link (v.8) script. I thought I'd move my question from here to this greasemonkey thread.  I'm also no longer able to connect to the link to reinstall it. Incidentally, why does it try to transfer from a mspertus' site? No urgency, just letting you know. cheers

If it's Links for Dictionaries, it's Ricardo you need to talk to. His site seems to be down at the moment, as I can't even download the script. To clear up part of the mystery, read this post to find out about the role that mspertus is playing here. Sounds like the stroke order diagram is giving you trouble. If you want me to have a look at it, send me a copy of the script.

Thanks for the offer Woelpad, but no need to look into it now as I imagine when Ricardo's site is back up it will work fine again. I'll try reinstalling it again then. And the mspertus mystery is indeed solved! Thx

I don't think the script requires Ricardo's site to be up. It's just a place to store the script so that people can download it, but once installed it can operate on its own. OTOH it's the unavailability of mspertus' site that is causing you trouble. A small improvement to the script can make it more fail-safe, so that it will continue its operation even in the absence of a site it depends on. That's what I would do if I'd have the source.

Hi Woelpad. I see. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to re-install Ricardo's script (site down) so I'm unable to send it to you. If and when that changes, I'll take you up on your kind offer!

You could send me the current script. This message (4th paragraph) and this message describe two alternative ways to get to the source. Try it.

Um...OK. I believe I located the "uninstalled" script from Application Data. I'm assuming it's "kanjikoohiichangekanjiinfo" as the others are all accounted for. (So much for thinking deleted things are deleted!)  Now, however, I'm afraid I have no idea what to do with it.  Can I view the script text without installing it back in Greasemonkey and using Edit? Or could I send the file to you?

UPDATE: I figured out how to access the script. It turned out to the wrong one - not 'kanjiinfo' but 'kanjifo' (your font picker). smile So...perhaps Ricardo's script was uninstalled after all. I'm in no hurry. Perhaps someone else has it or the site will be back up. But thanks.

UPDATE2: Ricardo's site is back up. My reinstalled Kanji Links accesses, but no longer gets stuck on, mspertus' SOD site.

Still having trouble getting the Links for Dictionaries script working. As mentioned above, was working fine for a couple of weeks then suddenly stopped. In the Manage User Scripts the Script is shown as enabled, nothing looks different to my other computer where the script works fine still. Greasemonkey is of course enabled, however, when I right click on the icon in the bottom right of the firefox screen it claims no scripts are installed. No amount of uninstalling and reinstalling both the script and greasemonkey has helped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Right clicking only shows the scripts that are active on the page you're currently viewing. Switch to the Study page and then right-click. It should list the script.

I thought that was the case but unfortunately regardless of whether I am on the study page or the review page it is not listed.

Check that the pages match up. In Manage User Scripts on the right hand side you have a pane that displays the pages it acts upon, with *'s acting as wildcards. For this script there are (or ought to be) two such lines:

Code:

http://kanji.koohii.com/study*
http://kanji.koohii.com/review*

The bottom pane is usually empty. Check that the html address for the actual study/review page matches up with one of these. If not, adapt above said lines and click the Ok button.

Looks like Fabrice encapsulated his javascript functions on the study page in a Study class. Had to update the Copy Story and Clear and review story scripts.

Sorry I don't remember when I did that change actually. Must have been a while ago, and perhaps I only uploaded recently. It's getting too difficult to track what changes and doing partial site uploads often bring bugs so lately I'm just re-uploading almost everything but images to make sure the update goes smoothly. Even so, each update I spend up to 2 hours cause you can always count on the server's environment to mess things up.

I almost have to give up on doing quick updates. Yesterday I was excited adding a simple kanji review feature for a vocablist. Guess what? I upload just one file and the review xmlhttp connection starts messing up, AND the session variables don't work. Eventually I find my code didn't initalize the session anymore (framework refactoring)., but for some reason locally it never caused problems, as if php created the session by default. On the server it didn't work anymore. Joy!!

Bug fix for Story with Line Breaks, where it tries to count the number of bytes a story has. BTW Fabrice, the brackets in your error message are unbalanced.

Story : too long (maximum 512 character(s).
