If you download good quality fan-sub releases by torrent instead of streaming, you can just deactivate the subs in the media player. Any decent subbing group should know not to burn the actual subtitle track into the video track.

You can take it one step further and download the Japanese subtitles from kitsunekko.net if they are available for your show. If you watch with subtitles, it makes things easier which you may not want.

I have Suite Precure 01-06 jp subtitles which I'll be uploading to Kitsunekko soon, probably tonight. This is an easy anime suitable for Nukemarine "beginner" level.

If for some reason you can't use torrents, then I'm sure a lot of fansub groups have IRC channels where you can download their releases. (just make sure you download the mkv version). Others might put rapidshare links or similar down too.

I'm not familiar with what a "To exchanged" is. that's a lot of users though. All of my downloads have been via megaupload et cetera so its been pretty safe. Its scarey but I'll give it a shot.

I thought the Anime industry wasn't cracking down nearly as hard as the manga industry. Onemanga took the plunge. Is this scanlator still around?

Torrents are safe, but certain torrents aren't safe in the US (due to FBI monitoring certain copyrighted content).

Talking about raw anime streams the idea of a spreadsheet of available raws/japanese subtitles for animes comes up to my mind.
Anyone who's interested in participating and collecting? I mean on the forum the topic with "700+ Japanese Subtitles" was posted and the attached doc, listing the contents, has doubles in it and looks quite messy, I must say.. Currently I'm searching for japanese subtitles for the anime "Arakawa under the bridge" (slapstick), anyone??

Kitsunekko HAS a lot, don't misunderstand me -- but it has not everything My plan was actually to make a list (plus links) to japanese/english/other subtitles (soft/hard/.sub/.srt or .ass format) and corresponding raws. But doing this completely alone takes a hell of a time o.0 the ftp works fine for me at least with FileZilla (ftp client) and Firefox.

You may be referring to the DHT (Distributed Hash Table) which is for caching and maintaining torrents in the absence of a tracker. Even though there are millions of users seen on the DHT (decentralized tracker), this does not mean that all 3 million (for example) have the files you want. You still must have seeds (people have 100% copies) and peers to get a full file. Sometimes you can have enough peers to have someone complete a full copy and become a seed. If you are looking for an obscure anime you will still need to find a torrent file and then hope people are still uploading to hope to get it.

That said. You still have just as good of a chance to get a virus from a torrent as a direct download. Multimedia files will not have viruses as long as they come as mpg/mkv/avi/etc. or in a rar/zip. Beware of self-extracting exe files though as those can have viruses.

If you use Filestube to find downloads on sites like megaupload, rapidshare, etc. I recommend getting JDownloader as it will make downloading from these sites somewhat more automated (I think there is a memory leak in the program though).

Torrent sites like: www.animesuki.com www.nyaa.eu are also good as fansubed anime might have soft-subs (ie: the subs are in a seperate file (.sub/.srt/.ass) and can be disabled in your player). If you have no problem actually maintaining a proper share ratio (ie: if you download 3GBs you need to upload 3GBs), I also recommend www.bakabt.com which has lots of super crazy fast torrents and always has people sharing. Plus they are quality-snobs and only want the best rips and subs around. You might be able to find a lot of the torrents on bakabt on Nyaa as well, but you won't necessarily be getting the crazy speed.

Finally, does anyone actually know if Japanese DVDs usually have JP subs for hearing impaired?

Just enter your router settings, forward a port to your computer's local IP address, and tell PD/share to use it. Use different ports for each if you want to run them simultaneously.

Torrents shouldn't be that slow, really, unless you're looking for some rare/obscure stuff. If anything, I often find nyaa faster than PD. The latter has way more stuff available, though.

I recognised that a LOTS of raws f.e. from d-addicts are constantly.. down, unseeded. If you encounter this problem as well, don't mind writing a reseed request, just register on the biggest russian tracker on the internet. You will find everything there concerning RAWs and corresponding japanese subtitles. [Seems like a lot of russian japanese learners are using SRS, huh?]
