You can download the daily news from FNN and TBS using 'GetASFstream' - it gives you a set of 7 or so video clips, so a new one for each story, and on the respective news sites there are transcripts for each story. There's probably an easier way to get just the audio though, but I think having video is useful so you can watch it back.

Just back with a mini-update. Absolutely love this news site and several others.
I'll lists the pros/cons of what happened/improvements
Pros
-You get to read kanji/understand/get a natural flow of native-Japanese speakers speaking
-Transcripts provide you with a base to look up words you may not(best thing to do is search up words you don't have any clue about in a monolingual dictionary.As this get's you to understand more J-J sentences
-Aids listening skills via vocab from news/general vocab for japanese
-This will enable you to read some high level stuff/understand it.
-Various topics,has downloadable videos/transcripts to save on your computer for future reference/study
Cons
-takes time, quite a lot.Looking up words,etc
-May not be interesting for some, but for me, the more kanji I'm learning the better! lol

Coscom used to have the path to their website mp3 audio in their page source code but now I can't find them anymore. It seems that the code is changed and some of the old paths are no longer valid either. Some of the old paths still work but the old paths to vocabulary words sound bytes, for example from the build up conversation pages, are no longer working and not visible. Is it possible to find the paths now that the code before the mp3 filenames only refers to some other function? This ability to link to the actual soundfiles was a cool "feature" of Coscom in the past that I would love to have back again.

Hello Buonaparte! Thanks so much for the hint! There is a lot of very good material on this site that we can now listen to offline. However, could you tell us how you found out that the html path ....korenani_today-k.html becomes ....korenani/today_au/*.mp3 (as in below)?

There is a frame in the members "building up conversation" section that lists the vocabulary words with audio, and I can't find the same pattern. In the free section, sometimes it's .../au/*.mp3 and sometimes it's some other directory like .../auhonbun/*.mp3 (as in below).

If I use the path ... /au[header word above the list of mp3 filenames]/*.mp3 or I also tried .../[header word above the list of mp3 filenames]_au/*.mp3 like in the paths above, I get a 404 page not found message. I think it was quite smart that you could find out the complete path somehow. Can you see the members pages and also the vocabulary list frame I am talking about? Thanks again for the tips and I will try your recommendations. I have subscribed to both the Kanji online and the building up conversation pages. Both seem to me to be pretty good sites for a reasonable one time fee. (the kanji online subscription was included with my cd e-book purchase, the conversation a one time charge). I like it that the audio is easy to capture for offline listening. There is a ton of material available on this website for Japanese language learners.
