Nice little New Yorker blurb on the topic of translation -- it's regarding French-->English but still I think anyone that's into thinking about translation will appreciate this! It's a fun, short read focusing on the translation of the opening sentence of Camus' "The Stranger".

Aw man, that's my favourite book <3. It's way too over-analyzing, though. No matter the translated word for mother the point still stands, and it's still one hell of an intro to a book. I do prefer the shorter sentence version to the original, since it lands more of a hit.

(completely offtopic, damn I wish the Japanese version this book wasn't 50$)

I Saw it here http://goo.gl/V1JD1 for 420 yen. the cost to send it 2 europe would be ¥3,400 but you could get a Japanese friend to send it over?
