I'm sorry about the rude tone earlier, it's not a common theme on these forums so please don't be put off by it. The part about manga interests was horribly formulated, makes no sense because I want to learn through media like manga myself.
It's just that I recognize myself in the huge amount of people that are interested in Japanese but are unsure about how to go on about it. I had been wanting to get into Japanese for like five years without really getting anywhere (understandable since I was just a little kid though), and finding the tools and ideas on here, and the links I posted was like "it" for me. This place is a gold mine. You have a lot of motivation and desire, and it shouldn't go wasted. So for these reasons I am a bit pushing and fanatical about these resources, and without a kind and nice tone like Nohika's I see that I come across as a kind of elitist prick even though that's not the point.
You didn't sound rude to me, but maybe there's a cultural/age gap somewhere. I saw the same in that I've been around the block so many times with this language.
This forum is an absolute godsend. Active, amazing people, everything.
I think your motivation in your post came from seeing several people with such motivation/desire on this forum come having tried so hard and gotten nowhere, and you wanted to help them out. So don't worry about it.
To be honest, I have little (successful) familiarity with non-using-Anki study methods, so I dunno how helpful I can be to OP. But I'll try. Arisu, maybe contact YudanTaiteki? He's someone who studied without Anki and may be able to give you some more specific help when it comes to potential textbooks, ways to learn, etc.

I accept your apologies and I should say also that I should apologize. So, forgive me! I live with my parents and they are against most everything that has to do with manga and most all things Japanese. So, I've picked up the nasty habit of lashing out when something attacks or even gives off the hint of being negative towards the things I like.
I shouldn't have responded in the way I did, but instead...calmly accepted your feelings and returned my own thoughts on how I see things.

On another topic, I was trying to put in an offer for Yumeiro Patissiere. Though, I don't think the person has noticed me yet. Also, that site you mentioned didn't have the manga I wanted! TT-TT I also wanted to know--are you sure that there anything like a $10 shipping fee added to the original price? I want to make sure if I can really buy cheaper books there rather than eBay.
My next two choices are Fairy Tail, Letter Bee, or Kamisama Hajimemashita. I really want something that it's been a while since I've read, had an interest in buying before, or haven't even read yet and would like to buy.

I just found a word I've been searching for for a long time. I had heard it on Naruto and I wanted to started saying it (teasingly) to help me remember the word. Though, I could never find the correct spelling of it.
So, I was watching Futari wa Pretty Cure and on this one site...they have a sub on the theme song. I noticed a similar word and looked it up further, to find that it was the exact word I was looking for! Yahoooo!
Buttobasu = to beat
Wahaha! So, lately I've learned about three words... (1)Urusai, (2)Yorokonde, and (3)Buttobasu. I love anime! I've noticed that I can understand more things lately. I eventually would like to find animes with Japanese subs so that I'll even be able to study the characters!

Just to let you know, my username is nohika. ![]()
I'm guessing you're searching in roomaji? That's probably why you can't find it - you'll have to use the kana/kanji name of the series in order to find it. There's definitely a shipping price, but the calculations are somewhere else, I think. I'll have to find it at some point. It is (from what I've heard) cheaper to buy bulk from there then it is to buy from eBay, generally. I haven't used the website since I live 40 min away from one, but I've heard good things about it.
Have you looked at Kaicho wa Maid-sama? I've heard good things about it.

be careful about saying that you "understand" something.
when i started watching tv shows and stuff with english subs i thought i understood it because i could bridge japanese voices with english subtitles.
a year later with japanese subs i realized i didn't understand it at all.
2 years later with those same japanese subs i'm still understanding new things. subtle nuances that i never knew existed.
i mean, think about it, you can say you understand those 3 words but there's a lot of contexts they can be used in, some they can't be used in, and nuances when using it. i for one have never seen ぶっ飛ばす used in any place except songs, and i wouldn't know how to use it myself.
if you want to read manga, you need to focus on improving reading skills. similarly, if you want to watch anime, you need to focus on listening (and maybe reading). you can skip or gloss over writing and speaking if they're not an immediate priority, and for the most part they're usually not unless you live in Japan.

Oops! Sorry about that (with your name and all). -_-'
No, it was more about the fact that Naruto made it sound like it started with a "P" and so I kept googling it with that letter. Then, there's the fact that you have to make sure that certain letters don't have a double beat on them. In comparison it would be...
Single beat - Butobasi & Double beat - Buttobasu
Plus, too many times it's hard to figure out if there's a silent "U" at the end of a word or not...especially when they don't pronounce it. ![]()
@kainzero
I'll definitely be telling my partner at school (buttobasu) everytime we get into our banters.
I also understand about the different meanings with each word. That's why I make sure to look into each one before I truthfully use each one, so I don't embarrass myself. Though, thinking back...I think I said "putobas" (teasingly) to a coworker and I have know clue if that word has a meaning of its own. >_< I will make sure to think twice before most things in the future!

Okay, you should go in search of that for me! I've been dying to buy this manga soon and I might not be able to get it in the end, if it's not priced right. TT-TT
Yes, I've heard of that manga and I've read really far into it too. It's kind of funny, though I don't really care for guys who use blackmail on girls to start off the relationship. It's just too weird... Kind of like Tokyo Crazy Paradise. If you've read it, there are so many times that I've wished to main character to beat the crap out of her significant other. >_<

heh, kinda funny that you started with japanese because of a game for nintendo DS, although I think that it is vitally important you get together with native speakers or spend some time in japan.
