sometimes they do singing competition shows but it's only with tv talent. some of them suck so in that sense they are "amateur" lol... yeah they're all amateur since they're not singers.

They also have meikyoku specials where they have the tv talent sing meikyoku... 名曲スペシャル or the actual artist. I don't know the name of the show because it's always like 春の名曲スペシャru...or whatever they call it. i think they come on pretty often. i just get it in my youtube subscription sometimes.... so if you are in japan just watch the tv if not browse the youku

I personally love kaeuta because it's funny not becaue their singing is awesome. (they change and the lyrics and lyrics are usually hilarious)

they once had a show with finding the next band but obviously winner didn't get big or famous.  in fact one of the top 2 bands sang off key during the performance.... lol. I just remember ariyoshi was mc on it or something.

anyways most of these japanese shows are'nt on youtube. maybe they're on youku.

if you want korean shows there's at least 3 or 4 of those types of shows. the one that's gonna finish airing in a few weeks is kpopstar on sbs. (I wonder how long it'll take for this video to get removed lol)

immortal song isn't amateur singers but it's so much better than american idol as far performance/singing quality.
