Hey guys, it's been a long time!

So I've been active on this forum for a number of years now (not so much recently) and this has been one of my favorite places on the web. Good people, good discussions and good software. Which brings me to my next point...

Over the years I noticed that a lot of users here / ppl that study Japanese tend to be CS majors and as such there is a vast pool of talented people that can build the tools they need to aid the learning efforts of themselves and others. I got N1 last July and finally entered university this year and when deciding on my major I was inspired by all the awesome people here who made the tools that helped me learn Japanese and change my life and decided on doing computer science.

Turns out programming is right up my alley and I've found a second passion in life. My passion for language learning and my experiences on this forum inspire me to make language learning software / tools using the creative approach that we use here at kanji koohii! Really wanna contribute back to this community and to the language learning community as a whole. Also keen on the idea of keeping things free and open source.

Anyways I started a bilingual blog in English and Japanese of software development efforts / journey of learning programming. In the future ill release stuff on there and would be good place to get feed back and stuff. Check it out if u have the time www.kaneshiro303.blogspot.co.nz

Feels kinda funny to say this but I feel like I've moved to a new chapter in my life, one where Japanese isn't so central. Although there is a Japanese guy in my compsci class and he's awesome so we've become good friends. I feel really lucky in that respect.

Anyway, just thought I'd stop by.

Sounds like a great idea to me. At this point, I really wish I had done something else other than majoring only in Japanese. I'm not that great at math, so I don't think I could ever do that well in computer science. I have toyed with the idea of making my own games before though. You might find this interesting if you are into making your own games:

Thanks for the like, I'll check it out!

Yeah, I feel sorry for those who Major in Japanese and take other things like linguistics and Asian studies. Even if you graduate, when you get to Japan everyone speaks wayyyyyy better Japanese than you and have degrees in technical fields to boot. That's not a winning situation.

I actually became class rep for my class by using Japanese as a secret weapon haha. About 4 of us volunteered and I did my whole introduction in Japanese because I knew there would be a lot of otaku/japanophiles in the class. Like 80% of the class voted for me. I thought it was pretty funny.
