Wow...that's kind of traumatic. Books should not fall apart that easily. Good to hear the next edition will be bound more seriously, though.

The cover of my book is peeling and the spine has creased. About 30 pages in the middle have nearly fallen out and they're sticking out of the book. I'm almost afraid to open it to those pages because I'm afraid they'll completely fall out. This is pretty upsetting because I take care of all of my books. This is the first time a book of mine has fallen apart this badly. Actually, it's probably the first time I've creased the spine of one of my books.

I saw some copies of the new 5th edition in Kinokuniya in Shinjuku at the weekend.  There were three in a pile and the top one's cover was all curled up.  I picked it up to have a look (having heard all the problems on here) and the one underneath also had a curled cover.  So did the third one.  It did feel like a cheaper copy of my 4th edition, even the pages are thiner.

I had a quick look at all the other text books lying around it, and not one other book had a curled cover.  I can't believe that Heisig is less popular than some of those other text books, so why is it so cheaply made??

It's a shame that they've agreed to have the binding fixed but it seems the cover will be left as is with the cheap card that curls. Over the last few days the major weakness in the spine of my 5th has finally torn and my book is now in two sections being held together only by a little of the cover.
