I'm in need of more content for my immersion environment, but I just haven't really been able to find much stuff that has interested me. I'm extremely interested in vampire lore and whatnot and I was wondering if you all had any recommendations for anything vampire related in Japanese. It can be movies, anime, books, manga, or something else just as long as it's got vampires playing a major part of it.

I've really liked the anime shiki and vampire hunter D.

What's your favorite Japanese vampire?

"Blood+" and "Karin" are good, and vampire-related, and there's Vampire Princess Miyu if you don't mind older series. Shiki was based off a novel, but its style is very literary.

EDIT: There's a list of vampire anime you might want to check out.

There's also Dance in the Vampire Bund, (but it apparently has a lot of loli fanservice in it) Vampire Knight, Rosario + Vampire and Blood-C which is Clamp's take on the Blood franchise.
Or you could just import the Twilight novels in Japanese.  Even though they're not really vampires.

Twilight? Gak. I believe the first few seasons of Buffy were subbed and dubbed into Japanese, though I think native Japanese sources would do you better overall.

Hey, he said anything vampire.  Besides, those books are hilarious.

Why has no-one mentioned Hellsing? The manga was better than the original anime series, but since the stories different you could probably read/watch both. There's also a series of OVAs called ultimate hellsing, which I think stuck much closer to the original manga. I've only seen clips of that series but it seemed pretty well animated.

I was wondering that. The series is worth watching.

Some of these recs look good. I'm not a big fan of the loli/hyper sexualized stuff but with Shiki it was somewhat low key (or maybe I'm just giving it a favorable watch because I liked the story).

Thanks especially, quark, for the Clamp rec. I'll have to check it out since their manga have furigana which makes reading sooo much easier when I encounter a new word.

One warning about Blood-C: The series essentially trolls you (and Saya) until the final episode and sets things up for the movie this summer. While I'm very interested to see what they do in the movie, I'm not sure how I feel about the series. I think it could probably have been shorter and worked better.

The final episode is actually good? Maybe I shouldn't have dropped it at episode 6...

悪魔城ドラキュラX 月下の夜想曲 really is a great great game.  But you should really play the Playstation version in English translation (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night).  The awesomely bad voice acting and cheezy translation has done more for my life than any amount of extra Japanese practice.  I think I can stil recite most of the opening dialogue off the top of my head almost 15 years later.
