I know this because when I lived  in Japan I had some Japanese friends who were in their 50s and and old gaijin friend who had lived in Japan 40 plus years and they knew that the degradition of japanese women and the subsequent femenist movement was well and alive and killing the soul of the relationship between a man and a woman in japan.
Japan is no longer a gender equal society like it once was, it is now a power is tilted in the womans favor society. This is mostly the USAs fault for importing the liberal feminist movement to japan in the 80s and 90s.

As for knowing more japanese means you dont like japan as much, i think not. Although I went to japan and didnt feel some kind of *mystique* to it, I was able to compare my experiences to the ones I have living in the USA and I can definately tell Japan is way better, as unfortunate as the USA is ruining as it may be

This is, literally, the stupidest thing I've ever read on the forum.

Congratulations on making the worst koohii forum post ever, you glorious idiot you.

This is ungrammatical and patently absurd - are you trying to wind me up?

I considered that that might be the case... but if he's trying to be ironic or something he doesn't know how to write ironically.

His first two sentences out of context would definitely be a joke, but in the context of an otherwise humorless post he seems serious.

Define "people person". Just curious. Everyones definition of that is different. I would like to here yours.

I think your saying people who can socialize and get out there right? I remember back in highschool I was super shy. People couldn't hear what I was saying and I mumbled when I talked. It was only after taking co-op in highschool that I changed so much. Although when I went to college, things changed for the better but I have tendency to talk a lot if one got me started which is pretty much the opposite of what I was in highschool.

Bit delayed in response.

What I mean by 'people person' is you have an interest in other people and kind of want to get to know them better. Maybe you just like talking to people, or maybe you are interested in the lives of others. Knowing more Japanese clearly lets you do this. If you weren't a people person though, you'd probably only benefit in being able to read more stuff and consume more media. Its probably a big question of what you value more, but even me, not being a major person and having studied Japanese to be able to consume more Japanese content, still thinks the 'talking to people' aspect still gains tons more from more Japanese skill.

I personally want to meet more people nowadays then I used to back in highschool. It was definitely due to just "getting out" more.  I do love the media and being able to understand/read it well but I'm only realizing in order to get the complete picture here: being able to speak/communicate with people in Japanese is key. It's amazing being able to consume the language in large amounts  and so forth but when I hear/able to communicate with Japanese people in person. It opens a new world.

I don't like talking much if the person isn't really interested in listening to what I have to say but then again, you have to be able to interest people. So I do tend to talk a lot more than I did in the past but that was because I barely used to talk at all.

So in terms of learning Japanese in the beginning I just wanted to be able to read/understand but now it's the opposite. I want to be able to speak really well and write really well. So now I believe I need to balance it out and keep learning.

You do know that that's a response to the fact that women get harassed on the normal train, right?

It's funny to watch the progression of this thread: attempted derail, attempted derail, thread sliding off track, getting back on track, DERAILED!

Thanks, that made my day. Oh, you were serious...

Might want to look up the word 痴漢. You didn't seriously think it was done to give women priority or something like that, did you?

True story, once met a guy who thought the entire feminist movement was a blatant attempt to give women monopoly over the world by imprisoning everyone who stood against them for rape, and Valentine's day/Mother's day were celebrating the success of their war upon men, which is why every time you give a flower to your girlfriend you are bringing the feminist apocalypse one step closer.

Ugh. This reminded me of a comment in the other thread that men are actually the victims in Japan's train sexual assault problem because they are being advised to keep their hands visible to avoid getting falsely accused. Woman can just yell "chikan" if they get assaulted.

The same person later argued that adult men are the victims in childhood prostitution cases b/c they were told the teenagers were 18 when they got them from internet sites (sites famous for having Jr and Sr high school girls).

And after regaling us with yet more of his "brash feminists infecting society" diatribes, he posted that embarrassing Feminazis-taking-over! video. (He seems to fancy himself a great logical debater, yet can't detect the massive holes in those arguments.)

I felt sad. Surely, this can't be typically of 20-something dudes. Why are the ignorant ones the loudest? (Why does this one argue incessantly about every topic without listening?)

I think some people might benefit from a bit of perspective ... and higher quality sources.  (Kudos to the folks who tried repeatedly to broaden his focus. That's patience.)

Oh, I knew I knew you from somewhere!!!!! How are you these days?

@ Thora there IS a great deal of blackmail in the vice business and without knowing the post you are referring to I can say that I know of men who have been tricked in similar ways. The case of the English soccer player Wayne Rooney is a case in point.

I think if you truly felt sad then you are extremely naive. Men have raped women and children throughout history and I know men who tell rape jokes in private but behave very differently around women. I think the most ignorant are the loudest because the most sinister keep the lowest profiles...
