Log into RevTK.
Remove all flashcards.
Add 1015 flashcards.
Review them VERY quickly (10 seconds max per card).
If they don't IMMEDIATELY pop into your head, fail the card (i.e. click "No").
DON'T make any new stories (takes too much time), just review.
If they are REALLY SIMPLE kanji (like "one", "two", "three", "person", "tree",etc),
delete the card (click on the wrench icon in the upper right of the review card and select "Delete flashcard").
Do this until you're done with your 1015 card deck.
You're now left with the cards that you really need to review.
I suggest doing this during any spare time (since it's speed reviewing, you can do
20 cards in 5 minutes or so) in short spurts. 5 minutes here. 10 minutes there.
I usually just "go by feeling". When I feel like I don't want to review, I stop IMMEDIATELY (otherwise, I'd be wasting time) and do something else. As soon as I feel like reviewing, I do it IMMEDIATELY without any thought (otherwise, I'd be wasting time).
If you can get to the point where starting and stopping your reviews is quick and automatic (i.e. a "just do it" attitude without thinking about the other things you have to do), you're good to go.
When you're done reviewing those 1015 cards, you can move on...... :-)

1015 Expired, so? Buckle up! Take a deep breath and start doing it. I haven't reviewed since 6-7 months because of my circumstances... I have 2042 expired. Next week I'm going to open the deck and start doing it. Perhaps Anki is not too accomplished in this respect, as it does not measure when did you do your last review - but it could be an important factor, and I think it could be easily done as a plug-in. Still, my intuition tells me just start doing it and things will fall to their right place. What I've learned over the last few weeks is that we (as the modern - western society) tend to overthink everything. Don't think, just do it!
My 2 cents.
