FINALLY, Just turned 17,10 days ago, even then I studied through that day.

July 22nd, Sunday, 8:00 PM, Finished vol 1, 2042 Kanji in the bag.

Started February 2nd and took almost 6 months, WOOT! ^.^

Big thanks for those amazing stories people came up with. I would have never finished this book without your helps.

Gratz to those whom finished, best of luck and remember, YOU MADE IT.

I did it... My kanji journey started on June 7th, and now it's July 29th. It took 3-4 hours of studying and reviewing a day, but I'm sure it was all worth it. Learning kanji over summer break was the best idea I've had. Anyway, I'm starting grammar tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Started in April and reached the end or RTK1 (or rather the beginning of a long review session :-)) this Sunday. I started slowly (~20/day) and finished more quickly (~100/day). I still find it surprising that I can remember even a small percentage of them.

I just unsuspended and reviewed the sign of the snake big_smile I started about half a year ago, and several burnouts later I finally made it! A mariokart-esque congratulations screen seems in order.... Now, tomorrow, time to start REAL Japanese. おやすみ、皆さん!

As of now I'm going to start Core2k, and dabble in Tae Kim's guide when I feel like it. I'll come up with a more comprehensive and attuned roadmap later tongue

Finally finished!

It took 3.5 months, but I've never thought, even for a moment, that I would not be able to do it, but all this confidence came from the amazing stories you all shared with me.

Many times, during this journey,  I've thought "this guy is a genius" when reading what many of you have written and left registered throughout the years on this great website.

Thank you very much, Fabrice... you deserve many a donation for the magnific job of having designed this "temple"...and I'll provide one of these when I have some money in my pocket. I won't forget it.

Now... Onto the newer joyo kanji!

I JUST FINISHED THE RTK 1!!!! YEIHHHH!!!

Ok, seriously now. I just finished the book today. Skipped though the last lesson (56) which sounded more like a guide than a lesson with new Kanji's. Yes, I know I should have included them in my studies (or not), but it doesn't matter. I feel I finished it and I DID!!!

Thank you all for you ideas and support in my studies and it's time to fully dive into the actual study of the language which I have postponed for a while in order to finish the book. smile

Microsoft Excel. In its basic form (which is what you see here for the most part), I basically had three columns:

Date (automatically generated)
Heisig number I reached today
Page number I reached today (to find myself in the book for the day after)

I plotted Date & Heisig number.

I just finished it an hour ago!

Now I can actually focus on this dreadful, but highly beneficial J-J definition branching.

EDIT: I used two months and a half -- 20 June - 03 Sept. I did take a break in mid-July though.

Phew, and a long 7-month chapter of my life comes to an end. Slow, but steady, I probably only skipped 10 or so days throughout. For what it's worth, probably the biggest accomplishment of the past couple years of my life.

To everyone else: 頑張って!
