I've finally added the last kanji into the SRS, and thus completed one of many sub goals. I believe this is the time to thank all of you who helped me getting here, even if you did it knowingly or not. Dr. Heisig, this wonderful site, and everybody who shared their stories, thank you. A special thank goes to those who posted in the encouragement thread. It is most appreciated.

It has been a most joyful adventure, and I had quite a lot of good laughs down the road. And also some visual images that I've tried my best to forget, but I just can't. (Such as the goatse man.. *shudders violently* A quick tip for the kids, don't look it up on Wikipedia if you don't know about it.).

I guess I spent about three months in total. Working diligently, reviewing every day, and dreaming about it at nights. It's such fun to compose stories and create entirely new kanji from known primitives when asleep!

Unfortunately, it wasn't until I was about three-quarters on the way that I realized the grand idea behind the book. Until that point, I had simply just 'accepted' the keywords, sometimes without thinking too much about giving it one definite connotation. After I found out what I did wrong, everything became such a joy. I'm confident my skills at creating memorizeable stories has really improved.

Again, thank you all. Walk with the SRS.

It was a long journey but it's finally over. Actually it's not exactly over since I still have to review a considerable amount of new cards. But just to know that I won't be adding more cards for a while... It's refreshing to say the least.
I guess I'm kind different from the majority of people here since it took me almost one year(first card added at 4-24) to finish. But, when I began my English was honestly quite bad so I was having a lot of motivation issues. Like "dude, I have to "level up" my English and do this crazy kanji stuff at the same time?". I remember stopping for more than a month... So, yeah, constancy was lacking. LOL
Also I work like a dog every day so it was a pain to come with good stories every night while feeling so down. I honesty can say that i would never made this far without this site.
So, thanks to all of you who made such great stories. Also, I would like to congratulate all of you who finished the book. :D

I'm just a little troubled about what to do next since I enjoy my English immersion A LOT... Don't know if I'll mix Japanese and English... Well, I guess I'll figure out.

Okay. So I finished rtk1 for the second time earlier this week. It went by really fast the second. I pretty much just focused on eliminating bad stories and making final decisions on the best story for each kanji.

I really half-assed the second half of RTK1 when I finished it the first time.
To the point where I didn't remember anything after the first 1000 kanji.

Now I finally get to focus exclusively on native material.
Lucky me.

Now I can get started on my pile of manga, light novels, and Japanese cookbooks. :-)

Congratulations! I know what you mean - I'm slowly clawing my way through the last 400 or so - it's taken longer than it took me to do just the first 1000. So good job!

I actually started again around 1100... Lots here recommend against it but I flew through all the ones I knew hitting 'easy' and I really had them down solid after that. I found it really helped to build up the primitives in order again.

Stick a fork in this bitch because she is dooooneee....

Yeah. End of corny comment. I'm proud of myself for actually keeping the deadline I set for myself. Of course, what I didn't do was keep the 25/day thing for 2.7 months, which is why I ended up doing...100+ for a few days, then 211 yesterday and...242 today. Which is...insane. I skipped two classes to do it, started at 11:30AM and just finished now  at 3AM. With plenty of breaks in between. Although...I think I gave myself tendinitis from writing so much.

I'm too tired to be elated. I only got three hours and forty-five minutes of sleep because I stayed up so late last night doing it. But it was worth it. Plus, I tend to have very fond memories of procrastination-induced insanity so I'm sure I'll look back on this with something like joy.

Now, on to Minna no Nihongo! Not sure if it's the best thing to do, but...I already printed the whole damn thing out(hoorah for getting my moneys worth out of college) so I might as well.

Another satisfied customer here, I've crossed over the 2042 mark a few days ago...

I dropped a donation to RevTK (and to Anki) to commemorate the occasion...

I wish I could also buy a beer for all the authors of all the stories I stole, abused and mutilated... On second thought, we may be talking about over a thousand people, so never mind smile

YYEAAHHH!

Finally completed RTK1, I started around the 20th of august!!! About 8 months.

Thanks a lot to Fabrice - your site is awesome!!! I´ve been using it SO much, nearly every day. I hope my financial situation will change in the future, so that I can donate. Right now I´m sadly a highschooler:(

Thanks a lot to the writers of the funniest stories, and the other stories I´ve used.

Thanks to the community for support, great topics and motivation!

Congrats to those before me and I wish the ones after me more motivation and fun when going through RTK1, as these were really hard for me to come by. I hope that Kanji learning will be made even more easier in the near future.

Sadly, just after finishing RTK1 I got to know that the scholarship for which I want to apply for in 1,5 years, wasnt given this year, so I dont know whether to cry or be happy. It´s due to financial problems. I reallt hope they can give it next schoolyear, when I graduate.

May the Kanji be with you!

やった !!! (This phrase has been probably used numerous times on this thread. I wonder why ?)

61 days and 4 partially full notebooks later, here I am standing atop 富士山 having tamed the half of the 漢字−dragon. But the battle is far from over. Readings, I'm looking at you !

Sorry for that incredibly stupid prologue. RTK was fun right from the start to the very end and I couldn't have done it without the community over here at RevTK. I want to thank the members of the community for  sharing their great stories. James Heisig, thanks for providing such a systemized approach for learning 漢字 in your book.

As for the readings, I'm starting the sentence method tomorrow. The plan is that once I get a good enough grasp on grammar I'm going to start KO2001. After I'm done with KO2001 I think my level will be sufficient enough for the Kanji in Context books and for using a monolingual dictionary. If everything goes according to my plans I will be able to comprehend written Japanese with ease by the first quarter of 2011.

And did I mention that while all of this is going on, I'm going to bombard myself with Japanese input.

Japanese literacy, here I come !
