I just finished! It took me almost a year... I was too busy/lazy to do it during school, so I'm glad to have finished it this summer. Yay! smile

Ahhh! Finally finished with RTK! Took 6 weeks of intense, brain-melting study, but it was worth it. Congrats to all who've completed it as well!

W00t!! I can't believe I'm done! I can't wait to get on to sentence mining. I'm tired of telling people I'm working on my Japanese and not having any improvement to show for it conversationally.

But it's an amazing feeling of literacy. I can go pages in a manga without missing a kanji and my handwriting has improved a million times! People now say "it's good... for a boy" instead of "it's good... for a westerner" !!!

Thanks for all the stories everyone! And especially thanks to Misters Denis and Heisig!

You came to the right forum, but you came to the wrong section.  Try posting a thread in the general discussion section and some people might give you a few pointers. One thing you gotta learn is that you can't just post a phone number and expect people to call and help you. You have to come to the source itself. Even then, we're mostly self-directed people so some of us might give you tips while some of us will just tell you to go read 'Remembering the Kanji'.

Hells yeah! Finally done! Took me 4.5 weeks of concentrated study and I sort of rushed at the end, but now all I need to do is review! Woo, feels good.

After four months I'm finally finished, damn it feels good.big_smile  Whenever I saw any Japanese I went straight for the katakana hoping to understand something.  Now I go straight for the kanji, it's amazing what this method does for you.  Thank you Heisig and thank you everyone for your stories that helped me through many kanji!!  Now for a little break...besides reviewing of course.

I finished RTK1 two days ago. Took around 3~4 months, though i rushed the first 300 as i had studied those last year using paper flashcards.
I might go to a lamen restaurant today to celebrate smile
There was no way i could come up with so many stories, so I'm really glad i found this website.
Thank you Fabrice, and everyone who contributed with this website!

My RTK2 should arrive soon. I'm going to take a look at the pure groups, which seem useful. I don't plan starting RTK3 anytime soon. I might just learn the most frequent characters as i meet them.

Just finished, after almost 4 months.  Now I can start learning the actual language and hopefully won't have to explain to people anymore how I can spend so much time studying Japanese and not be able to speak a word.

Thanks to Fabrice and to everyone who wrote such amazing stories.  I can't tell you how many times I spent 5 minutes trying to come up with something and ended up looking here and thinking, "That's brilliant.  Why didn't i think of that?"

Finished after 3,7 months and an average of 18,5 cards per day \o/
Aaaah, I can't wait to study real japanese now smile
Thank's for your wonderful stories, I used about 50 or 60% of them , and made the rest on my own, even decided to share the ones I thought to be good enough to help someone big_smile.
Also, as english is not my native language I translated all the keywords to portuguese , and it wasn't easy, some of the keywords were really tricky, so I had to do a lot of research
The only thing I regret is not having used spiderman as a primitive for thread, it was probably the hardest primitive for me...smile

Wowowowow.  I finished the first 1100, and skipped half the last 900+ according to RtK lite.  So, having studied a prime 1571 kanji, I've "finished" RtK 1.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.

One can always return to learn the rest of them when it makes sense, yes?  I might have studied them all in one go if I wasn't already living in Japan, and hurting for a functional grasp of the spoken language.  It's been a bit of a death-march, so it feels great to be "done."  I think I'll start to learn readings, now, in context.

Congratulations to sup3rbon, Asakk, elmaestrokgb, suhej, melchan, wishroom and joe, who've just finished; and congratulations to those of you who are just about to finish.  We have perservered.  It feels good.

Big thanks are in order to you, dearest Koohii community, for having provided zillions of memorable stories and having made this work much easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

So, I hear that learning Japanese gets lots more fun after this point.  Thank God!

^ㅂ^

Holy s*** I'm done. Well, I've worked through the last RtKVol1 Kanji. Now I need to SRS them for a while to make them solid... but no more new Kanji for a little while! YAY. Feels like I just ran a marathon or something. DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNN.

Congratulations. The journey begins. ;p

vrtgo, did you use Oni's mod to RTK Lite? Let us know how it works out. Will you be doing the KO lists at smart.fm? http://forum.koohii.com/viewtopic.php?id=2539

I often wonder what I would be doing right now if I hadn't stumbled upon AJATT and consequently, this site.
I feel so relieved now that I've done my reviews of the last 3 lessons, even if I still have a while before all the kanji are deeply rooted into my skull.
But now it's time for the next course of action. :D

I paused RTK a few months ago to start some sentence-mining, got sidetracked by that...but finished RTK1 today.

Thanks to everyone whose stories I used! I especially appreciate those new primitives, I can't imagine going through the book with "person" and "fingers"

Finally finished after two years... probably 7 months of those two years were times when I had a "holiday" from studying... it's a really awesome feeling to be finished. I can now continue studying where I left off many years ago, before discovering AJATT.

My book is in pieces:
