It amuses me how you chose to interpret that.
I was referring to the image copyright. You can't just copy things because you're able to find them. You can't upload a movie to youtube and link to the publisher's home page and the movie's IMDB page. US copyright laws do not work that way.
I'm linking to the direct link of pictures. They are non-profit and copy and paste is allowed. What is wrong copyright violated about this? It was suggested to me to post the links and I am. What do you do besides nothing? I had no idea it was a crime to use pictures from google images.

I'm not sure where you got the pictures, but for example, this one
You copied it to your own host and linked it from there. But that doesn't change the fact that you took it from some other site. With a little bit of searching, I have a feeling the site where it originally came from is here: http://www.haikudesigns.com/tatami-mat.htm
That might be wrong, but the fact is that you didn't generate that picture by yourself.
Take a look at the note at the bottom of the page:
All text and images on this web site are protected by copyright law.
Copyright ©1997-2011 Haiku Designs. All Rights Reserved.
Believe it or not, pictures online are copyrighted just like movies, songs, etc... regardless of whether or not you got them from Google Images or not. If you use them on your own site, legally you need permission. Now, there a lot of places that have pictures under licenses that are completely free, some that require you to link back to the original source, etc... This is generally done by putting a link right under the picture that's like "Image Credits: [site]" or something like that.
This counts whether or not your site is for profit or not. Everything on the site is assumed to have been "created" by you, or whoever you are giving credit to. That's just copyright law. It's a bitch, and I hate it -- that's why anything I've ever done has been severely lacking in graphics.
I'm trying to get the links up as they didn't get uploaded. After that, there should be a problem then.
It's not a matter of just posting the links. Some people don't want you using their images at all. I'd suggest looking up the Creative Commons license and getting pictures from places online that offer pictures under that license. I know you can search flickr for pictures under certain licenses.
Now, even if you don't link to anything, there's a very very slim chance that anything will happen. At the very most, I can see you maybe getting an email from somebody saying "I see you're using my image. Take it down, kthxbye"
But again, it comes down to appearances. Covering all your tracks and making things squeaky clean gives off a professional image.
If they didn't want to copied, why are they on google images? I don't think it would be online if they didn't want it to be seen. I'm kind of perplexed why using google for pictures is criminal.
Google indexes everything on the internet unless it's explicitly marked as "do not index."
Things are on the internet to be seen, but not to be taken by other people and used for their own purposes. Just because it's freely available doesn't mean you're free to put it on your own product.
Copyright is just that -- the right to copy. They put the image online for their own purposes. If you want to use (read: copy) it, you need to ask for the right to do it from the owner.

You sound so sure of this, even though you're wrong!

Suggested by a copyright lawyer, I presume?

Google has nothing to do with it. Google indexes torrents of copyrighted works as well. It's still breaking copyright laws to download those. Images are not different in any way, other than that it shows you a thumbnail before you go to the website.
Basically, what Asriel said. Use of a copyrighted work is entirely dictated by the copyright owner. Whether it is indexed by google, or whether you link to the original, or even whether you are making money out of it or not, is entirely irrelevant.
Sure, most people won't care if you used their image. In fact, they're probably glad you're making use of it for something useful. However, if you use the material of a design or stock image company (like in Asriel's post), then be warned that they do, in fact, periodically search for infringements and do something about them.
All I'm going to is post the links because it is the most practical. And please refrain from sarcasm. I am just trying to make my site more colorful.

That's not a good idea, as others are saying. Why ignore the above advice? I recommend using images from a stock image site such as http://sxc.hu/, which offers royalty free images. Royalty free images, unlike copyrighted images, are free to use as the name suggests.
DeviantArt also tends to have a bunch of stock images.
It's out of my reach. I'm not completely ignoring them. I will definitely be going to try out those sites, thanks. Google is still much much easier. Thanks to everyone I've gone over 1000 hits for the first week of 2012. That is a good milestone.

I posted a note about the pictures and their ownership at the bottom of the page and they are all linked appropriately. Now I know that this does not completely suffice, but it is good for now until something happens.
I digress. I got new headphones and am very happy. I do have a question about copyright though. Say someone makes pictures of my site, do I have to ask permission to use it?
では、お休みなさい!

The site looks pretty neat. One question though...
Why the romaji?

Imagine that you're the owner/manager of a new supermarket, and there you are in the town square giving a promotional speech... how do you react to people throwing out questions or even statements that are critical and insulting? Do you jump off your podium and start shouting in their face that they don't have a right to talk to you that way... ? That you are better than they are at identifying and handling exotic produce?
Actually, a more precise analogy would be that there is a new supermarket in town, some girl hears about it, then goes to talk to her friends at her local "good food" community. Once they've gotten started discussing the good and the bad of the supermarket the manager comes barging into the community's building, even though he's never been part of the community, and then starts yelling at everyone saying something even slightly bad about the supermarket, even ripping into a dude for being FROM HAWAII. Then when they tell him he's obviously acting like a bastard he says they're going "over the line" and acts like he owns the place, ie the community, even though he has had NOTHING to do with it before. He even demands that people stay around and talk to him after he's treated them like less-than-humans! Moreover, he actually straight out says that the main thing he likes about the community is that thanks to them talking about his supermarket there's more people coming over, not that he really likes talking with the people at the community.
Seriously guys, this is not about being tolerant, this is some masochistic stuff you're doing. I'm sure that imabi has his own problems as well as some good sides too and all, but at some point you have to realize that one has to give up communication when the other party is abusing you.

As far as the supermarket, since the economy is so bad, if the place has good deals, I'm shopping there.
Even while true, I can't say I'm particularly impressed by the 'deals' in this 'supermarket'. And if the manager himself thinks the deals are good and the competition is worse, that has never mattered.... So while you can pick apart Tae Kim and make him look bad all you want, the fact is there are a lot of people that still prefer his site to yours. The only way to change that is to change your site, not assume that when you bash the competition our mindset will magically change.
Especially since when you attack Tae Kim, you attack those who like his site in the process. It's a horrible approach.

Let's not forget the part where his supermarket is adorned with signs he stole from around the neighborhood, and then him pleading ignorance because it's more convenient than politely asking the kids from the local art school to use some of their work for free.

Using a forum for free advertising and then insulting everyone who responds, and not participating in the forum in any way, is usually not considered good behavior. You can't post here, say "I don't want to see any responses, discuss this elsewhere".

That is not what I meant.(assuming this "you" is referring to me. I don't know, maybe I'm misunderstanding you.) I was saying that he basically said, "I really don't want to talk to you guys but I have no other choice." So I was saying, "Well, if that's your opinion then we (I) really have no interest in helping you." He seems to treat this thread as some kind of unavoidable burden not as any real help. I'm really not sure what he is expecting out of this site at all since 90% of the suggestions that we give are met with hostility, defense and personal insults. I think he just wants praise and more hits to his site not any criticism. He seems to have the idea that he is helping us and not that we are helping him, so if that's what he thinks then we (I) don't need to help him anymore. ( I say "we" because I haven't posted too much on this thread. Mostly because I wouldn't be able to say anything that hasn't already been said and fallen on deaf ears.) Though I am not trying to discourage anyone from helping him if that's their prerogative.
I completely agree with everyone here that his behavior is totally inappropriate and I am not saying that we shouldn't discuss it. I have no interest in limiting anything here in any way. I was simply saying that if imabi does not think what we are doing is helping then, OK imabi, see you later. Have a nice life and good luck to you.
Imabi,
you do keep annoying people for no reason.
This forum is full of usually very friendly members, they do mean well. Some are just beginners, like my granny, some know plenty of useful stuff, like yudantaiteki. No need to offend anyone.
No one denies you've got potential. Your project is very ambitious. But being a learned moron is not your goal,is it?
Pictures are not essential in any way. What really matters is the content. No need to dumb down anything, just make it crystal clear and easy to understand. 'Easy' does not mean 'incorrect' or 'watered down'.
thistime: No sorry, that was a response to imabi. I should have quoted his original post instead.
Haha OK ![]()

People,
less bickering, more smiles.
Meet my granny:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zx39v3J … re=related
All of this while I was asleep?
There is only romanization in the beginners lessons. I think what is covered is fine but how it is presented is boring. This is why I am trying to make sweeping change to how everything looks and feels. I dont like my words being misconstrued when I'm asleep, and it is exactly what happened last time. I have met some very nice and informative people here, but I have also seen people that treated me like I was a spammer.
I am not trying to advertise, I just asked if something was better. I always talk to people that use my site and have become close friends with them. I dont know what some of you are talking about. Seriously guys, there have been quite a few of you that have talked about the same limitations on Tae Kim's site, no need to hyperbolize. I have gotten considerable help from people here.
This just makes me sad now...I already have a depression problem.
