almost anything with ayase haruka is good, JIN, MR. Brain, that one show where she's a slob at home but i forgot the name

ueto aya's pretty hot in nagareboshi
tsuki no koibito is... not that great but shinohara ryoko is pretty hot especially in terms of speaking, however you have to put up with Lin Chi Ling's heavily chinese-accented japanese

how did nobody mention 大切なことはすべて君が教えてくれた yet! probably my favorite drama. i'm in love with the soundtrack and the cast is pretty awesome.
Hotaru no Hikaru 1&2 is great too. First season doesn't have jp subtitles though Mother has been mentioned already, gotta agree it's amazing! Same with Nagareboshi (except for the annoying brother).

looking for more *really good* dramas with jp-subtitles now. can anyone recommend any without too many facepalm-moments? I watched the first episode of 名前をなくした女神 which was full of awkward scenes & way too predictable. I dont think i can handle that despite the good cast, not after Mother. also tried GOLD, 日本人の知らない日本語 & 生まれる which were not much better in that aspect.

hmm, I guess 名前なくした女神 is just not for me. But then again it was only the first episode so I might give it another try sometime later. 

I checked out 美しい隣人 yesterday which seems to be interesting, will watch more episodes when i'm done srs'ing Last Friends (its great so far!). ty pudding & caivano

It depends what you mean by *really good* from the japanese subtitles list, Innocent Love is interesting and a little strange but cheesy. massugu no otoko is not so cheesy but not so gripping but quite good in a quite good kinda way. School!! I haven't watched but some of my friends said is good so should be worth checking out. Saito san is also good and not cheesy. Buzzer Beat is your usual cheesy but fairly decent sports drama with a few love stories thrown in. That's about all the ones I've watched I think!

My Korean friend recommended it to me the other day. There is Season 1 and 2. I've only watched a couple of episodes from Season 1 but it's really really good. Without giving too much away has has a bit to do with 江戸時代 so some of the speech can be hard to understand, so I definitely recommend subtitles (Japanese or other)

I paste the .srt text into http://translate.google.com (ignore the translation) and use rikaichan to copy the definitions into my subs2srs anki-deck. it's still kinda slow but yea. I wish there was an anki rikaichan plugin that would take care of all vocab that contains kanji

I want to recommend 勇者ヨシヒコと魔王の城.  It's currently airing and has no subs but it's hilarious!  It's based on Dragon Quest style rpgs so if you like them you should definitely try it

I loved it too but from the  first ep i wasn't sure if it was gonna get that good since they had some dumb parts (fan-servicey with the ikemen). But as I watched i just grew to love it more and more.

I just finished watching 泣かないと決めた日。It's available on D-Addicts with Japanese subs. The level is appropriate for those around JLPT 3/2. Anyway, it's one of those typical office dramas in which a new employee is bullied and then struggles on to gain the acceptance of her coworkers. However, it differs from the norm in how serious and dark the tone is. If you dislike cheesy dramas, then this is a good show to watch. There definitely are cheesy moments (usually long, heartfelt speeches), but they're few and far between.
