Hi all,

I've reached the end of the sample pdf and I've been looking all over for a copy of RtK 1, 5th edition. I've contacted probably all the online book sellers and they always tell me they have to "order from the publisher" or that the current edition is in "reprint" and would have to wait. After all this searching I decided to pay Nanzan's site a visit. Apparently there is a "Sixth Edition currently in preparation" with the remaining 157 of the new 196 general use kanji. Also, when you "Purchase from Japan" the option to buy RtK 1 is already for the 6th edition. Should I just buy from Nanzan directly (and get the 6th edition) or continue looking for a 5th edition copy that isn't sold for ~$75?

Thanks.

edit: I've already submitted a report to delete the other post. It seems I clicked the submit button twice.

It shouldn't hurt you much to use an older edition like 4th or even 3rd. Most of the info is the same.

There are some out there who used the first edition, I heard they did pretty well from it.

If you can buy an older edition (even used one) at a decent price I would go for it. It really doesn't make that much difference. Especially for edition 5 you can add the additional kanji... it's just not as practical.

If you're going to pay $75 for a 5th edition... that just sound way overpriced !! I would wait for the 6th edition. I guess ordering directly from Nanzan makes sense.

You can download PART I (276 character) of the book (http://kanji.koohii.com/learnmore) that will get you started if you haven't already.

Thanks all for your replies.

I've decided to just buy the 3rd edition since it seems like there's really not much discrepancies between editions (I'll just handwrite the errata in the book).

@the_marshal: I've already finished Part I of the book so I'm just gonna review for the next few days while I wait for my RtK copy to arrive.
