hey guys i am around 520 kanji and this is where Heisig starts using other kanji to come up with the stories. Like for example the kanji for rainbow is says insect craft. I am finding it hard to remember kanji like this. Does it get easier the more kinds of kanji i see like this this or should is still make up stories for the kanji? Thanks for the help.

Yep, use the stories found here: http://kanji.koohii.com/study
Pretty much my routine is:
1) In bed before I go to sleep, I go through RTK book and read the next 25 Kanji.
a) I look at the kanji and keyword and then write it down on an index card
2) During the day at work or on my PC at home the following day I will do Anki.
a) If a new card, I try to remember it from the night before (only like 15% success rate for me; however the writing of it comes easily). If I get it wrong or right I will take go to the study page here and grab a story from it to put into the card on Anki (I have javascript on the card that hides the story unless my mouse is hovering over the keyword).
b) If a review card, I try to do it purely from memory. If I can do this then I select easy or very easy. If I need to hover over the keyword to get the story, I will select hard or easy (easy if I needed the story for one element or positioning). If I get any part of it wrong I will select Again.
EDIT: When doing Anki, I use graph paper to write the kanji (2x2 square).
