I have been studying now for about 7 months. I finished the first book early this month (yay). I skipped book 2 (for now) with the intent of going straight for the meaning and writing of the next ~1000. I plan to finish the book by the end of this weekend.

So it took me six weeks for the first 2000 kanji, and is going to take me (i hope) about 3 weeks for the next* 1000 kanji. Part of this is because I have been spending more time on reviews, but also I think because I have become much more efficient at studying. I know many things now that I wish i knew 7 months ago. damn.

I have been thinking about what to do next and have been sifting through this forum, which is really great. If only there was not so much sifting to do... The wiki that goes with this site says it is about '...archiving the valuable information...' on the forum. But not much work has been done yet. So, I have made a start on two pages**, in the hope of provoking some others (with better, or different knowledge) on contributing too.

Study guide for RTK 1

Should I use RTK1

Signing up is really quick and don't worry if you don't know how to edit the wiki; someone (me) can always fix up the formatting.

Cheers,

back to study :)

notes:

*I wish i could say 'last', instead of 'next'...
**These two pages are really quick and dirty. I think it is good information, but I wrote them with the purpose of getting other people to add and improve. I have not deliberately made it sucky, just I have not spent much time on it.

This may come across as unsolicited advice, but I'd recommend against, doing RTK 3 if I were you. You gonna get a very low return on that investment at this point in time. Just study additional kanji as you encounter them. If you've done RTK1, you know the 95% of the kanji you'll need to know at this time. Trust me. Just start reading and listening complimented by light grammar study as you see necessary.

Thanks smile - but too late! I am nearly done (going to finish this weekend! - or at least that is what I  keep telling myself). Just doing the writing and meaning though, not the reading.

I have a 60 page word document with close to 1, 000 kanji outside of RTK that I've picked up, if you would like it; you seem like quite a zealous kanji learner. I've made stories for them all.

I dare say I would! I have some vague ideas about Kanken 1 in the glorious future. Anyway, I think your document would be really useful for more than just me. I have no idea what the current state of post-RTK3 kanji is, but it would certainly be a useful addition to the wiki. "Post RTK3 study paths" :)

Cheers.

Ooh ooh! I want. I always wondered how you got so many first stories on non-rtk characters big_smile

Found it! - Thanks thecite, looks great!

I wonder if you mind me putting it on the wiki? Also, how did you go about compiling the list?
