Any opinions on the freeware program Kanji Gold?
It can be downloaded frow www.uvic.ca/kanji-gold
I find it a nice program, with a decent (and customizable) spaced repetition system. It offers a multiple choice testing set-up of Kanji to Keyword or Kanji to On yumi or Kun yumi (five choices). It also offers a nifty reverse test of Keyword to Kanji, where you have 14 Kanji to choose from. This is the one I use.
The spaced repetition is something called On Time review. You can set it to a number of minutes (say 60) with a mulitple that spreads it out (1.0 means each review is 60 minutes apart while 2.0 is 120 then 240 then 480 etc.). Like here, each kanji you get right moves into the next box, which has a time attached to determine next time it comes up for review.
Why I think it'll be useful post RTK1 is when you want to test your On yumi and Kun yumi knowledge. As I'll be doing AJATT w/ Rosetta files, Anki will list the Kanji I've been using in the sentences. I take that list and put it in Kanji Gold to test out how well the On and Kun have imbedded themselves in me.
For now, I kinda using it as a Speed Review using the reverse testing. The idea being that soon the mnemonic and story that connects keyword to kanji must disappear.
It is NOT useful for stories as I don't see how you can set it up that way. I would not even use it as a learning tool. However as a review tool you may find your own needs for it.

I have the program and it's pretty good. However, I have one little problem with it that maybe someone can help me with.
The help file says that with the JWPCE word editor program you can make customizable vocabulary learning lists. I tried to do this with the format the help file asked and it didn't work.
Quite frankly, the program freezes everytime I open it and I have to open it again. ??
