ようこそ!

Don't get discouraged, there is no need for that. smile If you don't feel comfortable with RTK yet stop adding new cards. Get used to those you already have in your deck and review them for some time instead.

How far into the book are you?
How are your flash-cards set-up? (A screenshot would be nice)
Do you write the kanji when you initially learn them?
Do you write the kanji when you review them with Anki?
Is anything distracting you while you learn?

There will always be good and bad days when you review. I have had some days during the last two months where i sat there - staring at the keywords, and my head was empty. In fact i had such a bad day today where out of 120 i was only able to get 105 cards correct. Out of 34 new cards i was failing 15. The 5 cards i was failing in addition to those were a bit older but still young.

This happens usually on those days where i haven't been sleeping much. If it happens to you don't let it get you down. On other days you excel. smile

Just give yourself some time. You can do it! wink

頑張ってね!

I think you aren't having enough exposure to Japanese. I've noticed if I play games or read and I see the Kanji I've learned so far in RTK, they stick a lot better. That's just in my case, not sure how your mind works...

I hope you don't have the kanji on the front side of the card? Just to make sure ... Is your card set-up so, that the keyword is on the front, the story if you have it on the front of your flashcard is hidden - and when you see it, you try to write the kanji in question?

Another tip; get better stories. You say you can only just remember some of the stories. So I think you need to remember your stories better. If Heisig's stories aren't cutting it for you, try some of the stories on this website. You can find them by clicking on the yellow kanji symbol at the top of the screen, then clicking Study and entering the number of the card you want to see stories for.

Good luck! You can do it. Just take it easy. If 20 is too much for you, then slow it down for a bit until you know the kanji you have already learnt well enough.

As for Anki; I find the space between later reviews much too long. If I enter a new card today and I click 'Good' then the next review is the next day, and if I enter it as 'Good' then, the next review could be up to 6 days later! I don't particularly like that, but I have no idea how to change it. >< But that might be a problem with you as well. I suggest using this site's SRS as it's spaced less far apart, in my opinion.
