Not too impressed with Khatzu either, I wrote a comment saying I did not feel it was worth the money (And explained why, politely) and he deleted my comment off the site. However, he sent me an email asking me if I wanted a refund. Interesting. I'm not sure how to interpret the situation.
It's all a money making scheme
You say that like it's bad. It's really no risk because anyone can get a refund for any reason. That's perfectly fair.
Perhaps because people don't consider it 'fair' and more on the bad side when comments are deleted or censored, especially when it comes from a guy that writes like he is one of the coolest, most open minded persons on earth.

Let me get this right, guy tells you NOT to buy his product because you can get the same value for free (he even gives you 2 links for that) and yet you still buy it and feel disappointed?
There's method to what he's doing. "It's an advertising technique. If the thing were truly not worth buying why is there a price attached?" Asking this question combined with the relatively small risk (low price) makes people buy it to see what it really is.
Deleting the comment is kinda weird though.
Just out of curiosity, did anybody else notice something weird about Khatzumoto's name? Maybe this shows more of my incredibly stupidity than I should be showing in public, but...maybe "Khatzumoto" isn't actually his name! Maybe "Khatzumoto" is just an internet alias or something...
Lol, it's just that, when I bought the QRG through paypal or whatever, it actually gave some other guy's name. The first name was similar the "khatz" but not exactly the same, and then there was some other random last name. I don't want to put the name here in case he doesn't want the name exposed or something, but...hmmm...I wonder...

He runs the website out of his own pocket, and with his own time. Can't he have anything without people like you jumping the gun and demonizing him? Apparently not. He even made an entire section of the QRG article about how no one even needs the book. Deleting a negative comment from some random is the least he can do. This makes me laugh though because you're probably first in line when Khatz posts a new article.

No, if you put yourself out there to the public you are subject to public opinion. Simple as that, good luck changing how society works.

Since, from looking at his photo and reading his blog he seems to be African American, personally I would be very surprised if that was his real name; I'd always thought it was the Japanese nickname he'd chosen to help him with integration into Japanese society, and because he thought it sounded cool. A lot of Chinese people do this when they come to England.

Thanks Captain Obvious. Apparently you can't spot a rhetorical question.
It was a persuasive paragraph for the person I was quoting (not you) to try to make him look at it from a different perspective.

"A brutha" would have worked just as well.
From what I understand, Khatz is a Kenyan who grew up in the UK and attended college in America, so "American" doesn't exactly apply to him much. Of course, the point still stands that it's probably a chosen nickname, but I'm in a nitpicky, anti-PC mood so don't mind me!
I'm pretty sure Khatzumoto isn't his real name, nor was his intent to convince anyone it was a genuine Japanese name. ;p

Again then back to my original point, you posted it in a public forum. If you have a message for just one person then it's pretty easy to email them from here.
It may have been a rhetorical question but you made it pretty obvious that you feel like it's not fair. I think it is.
Will anybody be willing to help me as I'm struggling with AJATT and finding sentences.
Ok so I find a sentence
あの彗星は7年目に現われる.
The problem is how do I know which readings to use, having more then 1 is confusing. I don't know if I'm inputting the correct readings into the answer field. I don't have anybody to confirm if the readings I've put in the answer field are correct.
How do I deal with this?

This ^^
Watch his interviews (in English) with Tokyosam, and you can hear his English accent. He's a Kenyan with an English accent who was educated in an American college.. at what point did anyone believe his real name would even be remotely close to Khatzumoto ![]()
also just as a note to the people who rag on his writing style, i realise it rubs some people the wrong way, it does have a non serious dry British humour run through it. He isn't big headed at all if you hear him speak, he writes that way for comedic and motivational purposes, which i do find pretty amusing.
Youtube Khatzumoto and look for the vids posted by Tokyosam if you haven't already seen them, will give you a differant look at the guy behind the keyboard.

I wasn't demonizing him nor did i say anything against his business model. I just wanted to point out, why there could be people that aren't happy about him deleting comments.

Yeah, laugh if you feel better afterwards but it doesn't make your assumption a true one.

There's no reason to not be happy if he personally e-mails you to discuss your concern so it's clearly about his business model in that situation, or some other similar unsavory agenda.

It's simple statistics. The fact that you post here means, more likely than not, you follow AJATT. It's also funny how you didn't even deny doing so. More laughs for me.

It's also called a public forum, so you shouldn't complain when somebody comments on something you said even if it was after you quoted somebody else.

You told me to e-mail someone if I want to say something specifically to them, which is stupid because of the quote system, and then you say I'm complaining when I was just addressing your redundant suggestion. Do you have a grasp of what logic is? And on another note (sorry) nobody is complaining. I don't mind addressing your comments, whether it be the fact that you don't understand rhetorical questions, or anything else. Please by all means continue to participate.
Somebody post something and steer this back on topic please. >_<

Seriously? At first you say it was stupid that I told you to email someone, and then you go and say the reason why I told you to email someone without connecting the two. It was pretty obvious that the reason I told you to email someone was because to me it sounded like you were complaining. You should be able to figure that out really easy by applying logic and remember I am the one without logic not you.
Then you go on about the rhetorical question even though I already explained my intention. Your post was obviously disagreeing with his opinion and was trying to sway him into feeling bad for Khatzu. Cutting the quote off at the end of your rhetorical question was the most direct way for me to say I disagree with your post, and that I think he has a right to his opinion.
Now of course I am the one without logic, even though you seem so dumbfounded because I responded to a rhetorical question. I did however already explain my intent. You use a rhetorical question to assert or deny something, I disagree with what you are asserting. This is all very simple.
There is no reason people shouldn't have negative opinions about Khatzu. I'm not saying I hold any but if you put yourself in the public eye then you will get negative comments and some of them will be deserved. Deleting comments can be seen as trying to control public opinion, it usually makes the person look bad.
Go ahead and try to sway every negative post about Khatzu though, even though many of them are valid even if you disagree.

For most of that sentence, you just look up the words in the dictionary, and use the reading that makes more sense (if there is more than one)
彗星 すいせい
年 ねん
目 め
現われる あらわれる
those are the only readings the dictionary i'm using (and i'm pressuming it's the same one you got that sentence from) gives for those characters.
あのすいせい7ねんめにあらわれる。
The problem is with the 7, i've no idea how that is read
... in these cases, ask someone with more experience, there are plenty of people around here more than willing to help (most of the time, that is...)
So, can someone enlighten me as to the reading of "7" in this context? しち?なな?
-can we PLEASE keep this thread on-topic... i doubt any good has or will come to anyone from all that off-topic discussion. if you want to fight, please do it privately.
I can only remember hearing ななねん, but that might just be my limited experience.
Bit off topic, but なな年 is most common.
This brings me to the biggest problem I see with AJATT for beginners. How are beginners supposed to find sentences/reading/meaning that are correct? I wouldn't recommend going out into 'the wild' and hunting for sentences.
For beginners, I recommend Japanesepod101 because they have line-by-line transcripts with Kanji/Hiragana/English meaning to over 700 lessons.
For low intermediate, the Kanji in Context series is amazing.
Sure you can let the sentences find you. But, I think a structured approach targeted to your level, and designed to teach Japanese is best.

I never said the "reason why you told me to email someone". Making stuff up doesn't get you anywhere, and even if I did that's fine. This is a good example of your irrational statements. Just because there's a reason behind something doesn't mean it's not stupid.

Mhm. This clearly says that you think I should e-mail people if I have a message for one person, and because it's on a public forum. It's called a quote. Thought about getting with the times bro?

Your contradictions are annoying. See above. If you're going to change your story in a desperation attempt at least do it with accuracy. ![]()

And the sky is blue. I never denied my position on the topic. Saying stuff without reason only proves my point about your illogical thought process.

The purpose of my rhetorical question was to make a point about the state society is in, and then you and your big bag ignorance chime in answering my question literally. Yes, you are without logic. I'm glad you agree.

Woah!!! Dude!!! Stop!!!
Point the flames in the right direction. He made a valid point. Khatzumoto was willing to discuss the point of disagreement by email. You know, one-on-one. Cracky's suggestion to you seemed like a play on that. At least that's what I think he was getting at. I could be wrong though. Because I find it genius, whether true or not, does not give you warrant to spew your flames at me.
To be a little childish: I quoted cracky, so wasn't even talking to you ![]()
Either way, it's kinda silly to comment on my contribution to this discussion when you've just been arguing with another forum member for last couple of days, now.
Okay, now flame on! ![]()

In my case, I sometimes find sentences in my deck, belonging to my beginner days, that I immediately recognize as wrong or partially wrong.
My point is that if you collect enough sentences and read/listen to enough Japanese, a few wrong sentences are not gonna harm you. Seeking perfection from the very first step is good but it may not be worth the time/boredom.
