So I was wondering if anyone here has experience with PC games having a Japanese language option.  The ones I've checked don't seem to have many options for language, which seems kind of odd to me.  I would think the PC would be the easiest to get games with alternate languages.

I was wanting to buy Fallout 3, but I don't really wish to play the PS3 version of it, I'd rather play it on the PC, but as far as I can tell the PC version doesn't have a Japanese language option which kinda stinks.  So I'm a bit curious if anyone here knows a bit more on the topic.  And maybe have some cool games to mention.

Yeah, if you go on Steam and look at Fallout 3's available languages, Japanese is not listed. I was searching on Play-Asia, though, and you know Typing of the Dead? Why not the Japanese version of the sequel! Lol.

Except I don't think you would actually learn anything, as opposed to you might initially think.

Yeah, most of the time you'll have to do download the actual Japanese version to get them in Japanese. Problem is that is often tricky since the Japanese don't like using torrents for some reason, so you have to get them from Share or Perfect Dark. Either that or import them.

Sometimes there are 日本語化 patches (unofficial) available as well. I managed to play oblivion in Japanese using that (no audio sad ). Though again these are pretty hard to find sometimes...

Heres a tutorial for getting started with perfect dark

Quite a bit of work to get it working properly but theres a load of stuff on there that you can't find any where else...

It's probably easiest to find games that were made in Japanese then to find games that have been localized to Japanese. It appears that Fallout 3 was only released in Japan for the consoles, not the PC. But you can find plenty of indie/doujin games for the PC if you look.

Final Fantasy XIV is out now (an MMO), and you can set it to English, Japanese and a couple of other languages. Like FFXI, there are lots of Japanese players if you are around during the right time.

The only problem with that is that you have to play FF14. big_smile

I could never get and seeds for any Japanese diablo II torrents... Is it possible to buy it anywhere?

If you buy Skyrim, from what I understand you can change it to Japanese and it has both text AND audio in Japanese. Gaijinme there's no info on Diablo 3 being released in America much less anywhere else, I doubt you'll find out for a bit longer. If they're releasing a Japanese version though I'd like to be a part of that...

Well, there's a Japanese version of Skyrim, that's for sure. I'm off to play-asia.com...

Skyrim can be purchased through Steam and played in Japanese, yes, so can some other games, but not all games that have a Japanese version can be set to Japanese if purchased through Steam.

I only know of two games on steam that can be set to Japanese: Skyrim and one of the Civilization games (I think it's Civ 5). If anyone know of any other games, feel free to post about them.

Also: Does anyone know of a site that 1) sells Japanese PC games and 2) ships to Europe? play-asia seems to have, well... They only seem to have Japanese-made games, which I'm not terribly interested in. Also, it bothers me to no end that there are Japanese dubs of Deus Ex 3 for both PS3 and XBOX360, but the PC version seems to be English only.

At least I can take consolation that the first thing an NPC said when I fired up Skyrim in Japanese was お前みたい冒険者だった。膝に矢を受けてしまって・・・

If a game has Japanese options, it'll be listed on the store page with the languages. You're probably asking about games with subtitles AND audio, so to that extent you'll want to consult a game's forum. Also, Nesetoru, why would you go to play-asia? You don't need to import it if you're playing the PC version...

Anyway the reason I recommended looking into Skyrim is because it's an RPG with heavy amounts of text. That's the reason I'd go to great lengths to play a game in Japanese, anyway.

The problem is that the only PCs that I've got are old fossils which can't run anything. Besides, my PS3 is getting covered in dust and is in high need of some gaming action...

Question.

Has anyone done the Skyrim Japanese voices thing with Steam? Can you revert afterwards?

As in, the bf would kill me if Skyrim was permanently in Japanese, so I kind of want to switch back and forth. Would that be possible?

Yes, it's possible, the option is selected in the properties for Skyrim in the Steam interface. However, every time you switch languages it erases the existing language and downloads the new choice. That's a lot of data and takes considerable time even on broadband. If you're going to be switching back and forth, it might be worthwhile to identify all the files that change and switch them in and out manually.

I recently discovered this Square Enix card game (Powered by Yahoo! Japan) called " Monster x Dragon " 「モンスタードラゴン」 via their twitter site (they followed me).

http://monsterdragon.jp/

Don't have a Yahoo! Japan acct, nor do I believe I am knowledgeable enough (Japanese wise) to play this game yet. Has anyone played this game yet?

I tried and it says it's down for maintenance. There are lots of free rpg games with good graphics out there though, like まじかるブラゲ学院 and such, though I'm more a fan of visual novels.

I guess the most obvious thing to suggest is visual novels? I guess you're not looking for that though
