Sometimes I just come across words in drama that I'd probably
never find anywhere else. Sometimes funny. Sometimes strange.
But always 日本語っぽい。。。。:ー)
Anyways, I came across the word "ちょめちょめ" which can also be written as "xx"
"** or "○○". It's very similar to saying "*bleep* *bleep*" in English.
If you use your Japanese IME and type ちょめちょめ, it'll convert to "××".
From Jim Breen's WWWJDIC:
xx 【ちょめちょめ】 (n) (sometimes also **, ○○, etc.) (See 伏せ字) (m-sl) blankety-blank; bleep; used in place of sensitive word (often sexually related)
It's a way of censoring words you want to say (often with a sexual overtone).
In episode 9 of the Japanese TV drama "Walkin' Butterfly" at 6:43 mins into the episode, one of the characters notices that 2 people are acting a little strange and then says "あら!お二人、何かちょめちょめありましたか。"
It's basically saying "Hmmmm! Did you two have sex by any chance recently?" in a very nice way.
Maybe if other people can share any funny, strange, or interesting phrases they've come across in the wild and post it in this thread, that'd be great.
Thanks.

Here's one I came across yesterday. It came from episode 5 (at 1:41) of the new Japanese TV drama "Sunao ni narenakute" with Ueno Juri and Eita.
水も滴るいい男
(mizu mo shitataru ii otoko)
I confirmed with my language partner that you can also say 水も滴るいい女。
Basically, it means that the person is incredibly hot or handsome (much hotter than 美人 or イケメン).
The translation notes for the episode:
(T/N: Lit. 'A man so good, water drips from him' - an old Japanese saying.)
In the show, they translated it as "A breathtakingly beautiful man...".
In the scene, a woman throws water (from her glass) into a guy's face because
she's offended by his words. Then the guy says 水も滴るいい男 and his friend laughs
and says "well said"....lol......
So next time a women splashes water all over you, you can say "I am a man so good
that water drips from me"......
Of course, my japanese friend couldn't figure out what dripping water has to do with being really hot or handsome.
Haha. I wonder if Japanese has other funny phrases like this.
