Rikaisama just went haywire and started translating everything J-J. Restarting firefox seems to have put it to english again, I don't know what was up..   but posting it anyway just in case.

Perhaps you hit the "O" key which enters Sanseido J-J mode.

Well would you look at that. Thank you~.
Perhaps a different note to the devs then; the above wasn't clear for all the newbies like me.

I have two feature requests concerning Rikaisama — sorry if this was discussed previously…

1. The are now so many options available that I often find myself turning Rikaisama off and on just in order to display the list of hot keys. Could one extra key be added ("H" ?) for that purpose?

2. Rikaisama is so useful that I often miss the possibility of using it within Anki (especially with the "japanese_examples" plugin turned on, which displays a lot of Japanese sentences in the Anki review window).
Of course, I have no idea of how difficult it would be to convert a firefox plugin into an anki plugin, or whether this is even at all possible…

1) You can also look at the Keyboard tab of the Options dialog to display/modify the hotkeys. Paired with the method you've already described, I think this is sufficient for now. You'll remember the hotkeys eventually.

2) I'm not going to port Rikaisama to Anki (if that's what you're asking). You can always use JGlossator or similar tool that reads the clipboard though.

I would love to but, as it seems, this is Windows only, and I do not think that I will install a dual boot on my Mac just for one application.

Thanks for the suggestion and for the great plugin!

I'm re-requesting the following:
Another request would be to add more EPWING dictionary slots, maybe 10. I currently use Daijisen, Meikyou, Koujiten and Daijirin and would like to add other dictionaries/encyclopaedias.

Any chance you develop a chinese monolingual version of the program? It would be possible? I tried C-J epwing, no success. Has anybody tried this?

I'll probably get around to this someday.

Currently Rikaisama can only lookup Japanese words. I have no plans to change this.

I have just uploaded version 18.0 of the Rikaisama Firefox extension.

Download version 18.0 via SourceForge

What's New?

● Added option automatically play the audio of the highlighted word after it has been highlighted for at least 500 milliseconds. It is disabled by default. To enable: Options -> General -> Play audio on hover.

● Rikaisama will now check your audio directory for an audio clip before attempting to download it.

● Added option to save an audio clip to the audio directory when it is played instead of just when the save key is pressed. It is disabled by default. To enable: Options -> Clipboard and Save -> Save audio on play. You should enable this if you want to cache audio clips in the audio directory to avoid download delays. You should definitely enable this if you have the 'Play audio on hover' option selected.

● Added option to make the popup translucent. By default, the popup is completely opaque. To change the opacity: Options -> General -> Popup opacity.

● A recent version of Firefox broke the popup's rounded corners. This is now fixed and made optional for those who prefer sharp corners. To disable: Options -> General -> Rounded corners.

● Updated pitch accent database.

Thanks cb4960. Is there any chance an optional "context" field could be added? I like to create cards that have some contextual information like "Article on night club law change" so when I see some random sentence 3 months from now I have a bit of memory to go on. Right now I have my deck setup to display the tag in the card front, but that requires I either have really vague tags, or hundreds of unique tags.

What say you? big_smile

I have just uploaded version 18.1 of the Rikaisama Firefox extension.

Download version 18.1 via SourceForge

What's New?

● Added the Notes ($o) save token (thanks kodorakun!).
This token allows you to specify additional information about the context in which the save took place. There are 2 ways to modify the notes text:
1) The quickest way is to highlight a word and press the "J" key to get a prompt asking you to enter notes. These notes will be used until the next time you modify them.
2) Additionally, you can modify the notes via Options -> Clipboard & Save -> Notes.

● Added the Title ($i) save token (Thanks Wind Owl!).
This is the title of the current webpage. This should also help to add some context.

● Modified the "play audio on hover" feature so that the audio will not play if the word is un-highlighted before 500 milliseconds have elapsed.

The audio is being searched online right? Could it be searched in a folder in the future ?
Like this JDIC_Audio_All_09April2010 folder you've made. And how about the words that don't play ''No Audio''?

Just a few more slots Epwing to this program to be perfect, for me, at least.

As of version 18.0, Rikaisama will search the audio folder in "Options -> Clipboard & Save -> Saved audio" before attempting to search online.

I have just uploaded version 19.0 of the Rikaisama Firefox extension.

Download version 19.0 via SourceForge

What's New?

● Added word frequency information.

To enable, check the "Options -> Dictionaries -> Show frequency information" checkbox. It appears as a colored number to the right of all readings and conjugations.

Frequency of the highlighted word is shown in terms of the number of words that are more frequent than it + 1. So if a word has a frequency of 1563, it means that 1562 words are more frequent than it.

Frequency numbers are colored green-ish, yellow-ish, orange-ish, or pink-ish to indicate very common [1 - 5,000], common [5,001 - 10,000], uncommon [10,001 - 20,000], and rare [20,001 - infinity] words.

Screenshot:
http://rikaisama.sourceforge.net/images/pitch_accent_example_1.png

Frequency information comes from analysis of 5000+ novels (via Japanese Text Analysis Tool). Frequency of words in other mediums, such as newspapers, might vary. Not all words have frequency information. It is possible for multiple words to have the same frequency if they where detected the same number of times in the frequency analysis.

● Added option to enable/disable the "no audio" clip.
See "Options -> General -> Enable the 'no audio' clip".

● Fixed bug that forced the pitch accent to be enabled in EPWING mode when the "Parse entry to add color, show pitch and enhance frequency" option was checked.

I'll add save tokens for those items in a future build.

Just got around to checking this forum again -- thanks for adding this feature, that's pretty much perfect!

Often enough 広辞苑 uses images in place of 漢字. Then, when you copy and paste,
those images look like this:

梧桐    あおぎり    あお‐ぎり【青桐・梧桐】アヲ‥<br />アオギリ科の落葉高木。中国南部原産。樹皮は緑色。葉は大きく、3〜5裂、長柄。夏、黄白色5弁の小花を群生。果実は熟すと舟形の5片に割れ、各片に小球状の種子が載る。庭木・街路樹にし、材を建具・家具・楽器などとする。蒼梧。碧梧。〈<img src="data:image/bmp;base64,Qk3eAAAAAAAAAD4AAAAoAAAAEAAAABAAAAABAAEAAAAAAKAAAABtCwAAbQsAAAIAAAACAAAA////AAAAAAB//gAAwAMAAIOBAACAgQAAn/kAAICBAACAQQAAt+0AAIkRAACFIQAAv/0AAIEBAACPwQAAgHEAAMADAAB//gAA" alt="?"/>夏〉

That's normal and expected. Anki should be able to display these base64 encoded images without issue.

"The add-on from sourgeforge.net could not be installed because it appears to be corrupt"

Tried upgrading and clean install. Nightly 24. Never any problems with any version before.

I've re-uploaded Rikaisama v19.0 to Sourceforge. Hopefully it fixed the issue you are seeing.
