hi nyquil,

the automatic reading generation is broken on PPC-based macs, as 'kakasi' is not compiled as a universal binary. i will fix this at some point in the future, but for now you can work around it by compiling kakasi yourself:

hi resolve.  i hate to push, but just wondering how my deck was coming along.  i'm starting to dread the mountain of vocab that i'll have to face.  smile

hi resolve, I think I ran into a little bug:
I just added a tag to the 'low priority' field and now I get new cards which I have positively never faced before (review counter in statistics also shows zero to backup my opinion) - so far so good, but the learning/reviewing indicator in the lower right corner keeps claiming that I'm reviewing even if I see those cards for the very first time roll

Yes, it's a bug. The reviewing/learning indicator assumes that all old cards will be reviewed first, as was the case in older versions. I'll need to change that.

Hi Resolve, I've been plugging along with anki and hit 1946, 鳩. In my combined Heisig deck, it's listed as Imperial seal, 璽 and 鳩. My book says pigeon, the error file says pigeon and rikai-chan says Imperial seal is 2075.  For the time being, I changed it's number to 2075 and left pigeon at 1946.  Any idea what the real deal is? BTW, only 67 left to go, woohoo! big_smile

Seems correct in the Heisig deck. I guess your original deck had a mistake and it was propagated when I merged the decks?

Hi resolve,

Thanks for the reply. I might try to compile kakasi as you suggest, or I'll just wait a little, being a few weeks away from getting a new mac. Happy to know it will work then.

Thanks Resolve, I suppose I should keep it at 2075 then?  BTW, it's great to be able to change the numbers in the editor.  Cheers!

Hi Resolve,

I haven't posted in this thread before, but I've been using Anki for a while now and it's made an enormous difference in my studying.  Keep up the good work!

I also have a question.  Right now I have Anki set up to create a production, kana recognition, and kanji recognition card for each fact.  Kana recognition and production are spaced 8 hours apart and kanji is set for 5 days.  So far it's working well, except that the kana recognition and production cards appear in the wrong order - I would prefer to be tested on kana recognition first, then production.  Is there a way that I can set the model to do this?

Thanks for the feedback!

You can change the order cards appear by enabling/disabling them in the add cards dialog. Each time you enable a card, it's appended to the end.

Hey resolve,

I was wondering, do the spacing intervals adapt based on success rates per card, overall, or are they fixed?

Per-card performance does play a small part, but the next interval is largely a function of the previous one + the selection of the user. Anki used to use the Supermemo 5 algorithm which adjusted scheduling based on overall performance and per-card performance. I found it often got confused if you weren't completely consistent in your studying habits, and after trying to tweak the algorithm to improve it, I came to the conclusion that a table of optimal factors has fundamental problems.  Anki's algorithm  is simpler, but it's reliable and does what you'd expect.

If I have questions about Anki, is it best to post them on the wiki? If so, where is the best place to post them and what sort of format/procedure should be used?

For just now, I'll post a couple here.

1. If I decide to adjust a model so that I add more cards that can be derived from a fact, is there a way to add these cards for all of the facts already in the deck?

2. Given your advice to me specifically and the question on your FAQ, how could I delete fields from my facts? (i.e. only take the first example sentence, rather than having all three)

I have been checking out anki and I really like it. So far I have been using pauker (http://pauker.sourceforge.net).  It is probably too much work since not so many people use pauker, but I hereby humbly request an import-option for pauker-->anki.

Anyhow, even if it won't get done, thanks for the great work!

wrightak: if it's a real FAQ, copying it to the wiki is okay.
1) select cards, right click, choose "add missing cards"
2) just delete the field in the field editor in the model properties. all cards will be updated.

herr: i've created a wishlist item for this. perhaps you could upload a full file too?

Just had quite a big error. I was going through the deck, adding the missing cards as you described. I was scrolling through some of the cards pressing the down arrow and a window popped up with a serious error, shutting Anki down.

Library bug. Add it to the bug tracker and I'll try and find a workaround in the future

I'm wondering which of my actions might have caused the error. It might have been that I accidentally added missing cards twice to the same fact?

I think the bug is related to deleting and adding various text fields in the fact editor. If all your cards have the same model, this isn't a problem. Looks like a race condition in the library.

Loving Anki.  Thanks, Resolve!

Anki questions:
-I have only a dim idea of the card repetition algorithm. Is there a reason not to upload as many sentences as possible?  Or am I better off uploading them a little at a time?

-I copied the kanji_info.py plugin into my "...Program Files/Anki/plugins" folder, but I haven' noticed a change in behavior.  What is supposed to happen?  I put the kanji_info.txt file in the same folder. Is that where it should be?

-Have the Anki fans abandoned Kanjitown in favor of sentences?  I started off with kanjitown, and am finding my mnemonics still helpful.

-Is anyone out there swapping sentences?  There are lists of vocab and grammar points for the JLPT1,2,3,4 tests.  It seems like if we split these up we could come up with a list of decent example sentences.  It wouldn't be %100 perfect, but I think mistakes would be outweighed by time saved.

Sorry if these have been answered before, but the this thread is already 27 pages, and my search request is returning a link to the thread as opposed to individual messages.

Time for a real Anki forum perhaps? (*cough* hint *cough*)

The Statistics are telling me that the number of unseen cards in my deck is 946 but when I hover the mouse over the remaining cards indicator at the bottom it gives me these numbers: 363 new cards, 254 spaced cards, 28 suspended cards. According to my humble math powers this totals to 646 cards. What am I missing?

If you send me your deck, I'll look into it
