Usually, the funniest stories make my Kanji learning rewarding and fun! Sometimes after a good joke in a story I feel utterly motivated to learn more and WHY?

Just because the FUNNIEST STORIES make my kanji learning like watching a really good quality comedy! Or reading failblog! Sometimes I just cant stop laughing, and I feel great!

Itīs not just making kanji learning fun everytime you learn a new kanji, but also adds a lot of motivation and you dont keep thinking about the reward, when you FINISH RTK, BUT you feel really great right here! When learning Kanji!

So my idea would be to maybe replace the star button with a new one:

a button you push to say: THIS IS THE FUNNIEST STORY!!!(and the story works too)

Hey, What do you think?

I may replace the "star" with a "heart" icon someday when I finally improve the voting system.. but otherwise you use the star to say that the story was helpful. If the story is really funny to you, then it's likely to be helpful. The problem discussed before is with stories that are logical, get lots of stars, but aren't really memorable.

In addition, stories posted early in the life of the website (3 to 4 years ago) that get top spot early on tend to just get many "me too" votes.

There are ways one can "weight" the voting by user preference. Probably WAY beyond the ability of the what's in the database though:

1. Only list votes by members that finish RTK - Not sure what qualifies as finishing RTK (maybe a self selection in profile), but makes sense you would only care about votes of those that got the most from the system.

2. Only list vote by members that have put that kanji into their stack 5 - Sort of like the above. Why care about a star that came from a person that didn't put it to use?

3. Only list votes by members in my favorite selections - Sort of like top posting a story by a favorite member, but here you only care about votes by certain members. A more targeted version of 1.

4. Only list votes made in the last xxx months - Helps removes older votes that went to early stories that may have been improved upon.

As these would be user selections, it doesn't change up the overall scheme of things. It's just getting more from the existing database.
