Hi there, I've read through the AJATT blog entries pretty thoroughly but still don't quite understand what I am supposed to do with the sentences exactly. Khatz says to simply make sure you understand each sentence, but not memorize it. To pay attention to the grammatical structure, new vocabulary, kanji.... so how far does my understanding for the sentence have to go before I can say "Yes I understand this sentence completely." For example, it's one thing to understand it by associating the sentence with its English translation, but if you told me to write out "Do whatever the heck you want" I wouldn't be able to write it out 勝手にしろ. If I saw the Japanese sentence then yes I'd be able to give you the meaning. But for example I wouldn't quite know why "知らないに決まってんだろ" why shiranai ni is in front of the phrase like that....
I hope I make sense. I think it's easier to internalize the sentences and grammar if I had some basic understanding of what's going on...
