Sorry about the (は/が), but I wasn't sure which to use in each example.  Does it matter?  If so, can someone explain?

Anyway, on to my main question...

Is there any major difference in meaning or nuance between these three sentences?  Is one more casual or formal than the others?

Another example:

新聞のほかに何も読みません。
新聞以外は何も読みません。
新聞しか何も読みません。
