I was just wondering if anybody had good ways to get rid of the subtitles. Since they are hard-subbed in, and not on a separate file, it should be irremovable, right? In that case, has anybody just blocked out the translations? I really like the videos and the great quality, and even though I'm a beginner for Japanese from what I understand it's more helpful to try and understand. If there are English subs then you just look at those subs and it contradicts the reason why you're watching a JDrama (although they're pretty good in their own right - entertaining, anyway).

Unless anybody can recommend a website with good quality videos and no subs?

Thanks.

You do know about d-addicts right? Just download the shows you want as Raws. If you select raw as the subtitle type when searching only raws will show up.

If your interested in anime without subs, then you can do the same at http://nyaatorrents.org

If you do happen to come across a show you can only find with subs then you can simple change the aspect ratio in your media player to cut the subs out. In vlc this is quite easy (it's in the options if you right click on the video whilst it's playing)

I just watch American TV series so that I don't have to use subs and feel guilty about it.

for anime without subs there's also

Tokyo Tosho
http://tokyotosho.info/
(download from the "Raws" category)

Saiyaman
http://bt.saiyaman.info/
(tons of raw anime every week)

Even better than "no subs".

On D-addicts, all of the new dramas for this season come with
Japanese subtitles that are automatically extracted from the
caption data in the HD stream.

So basically that means perfect Japanese subtitles for every Japanese
drama from now on. And unlike American caption, these are exact subtitles,
which means it is EXACTLY what the actors are saying.

It's almost like the actors are reading from the script.
Read. SRS. Review. Repeat... :-)

Actually, I think I'm at a point where I could watch that.  I'm right on the line of almost being able to watch shows without subs and understand some of what's going on.  With the subs (which I assume have kanji) I could probably follow along well enough.  Very interesting.

Now if they'll just make season 2 of Mr. Brain I'll be all set!

The Vinster: it's easy to cut the subtitles out using any video player (no need to edit the original videos.)

You can simply open any program with "Alway on top" option (like MPC), and place it over your video to cover the subtitles.

I wish there were exact subs for older dramas like 14才の母 or 山田太郎ものがたり.

Thanks for the D-Addicts link, didn't know about that.

And yes I know I could "cut out" subs by placing a program over and hiding the subs, but I watch them on my Zune. I usually watch dramas before I go to bed, so I sit in my bed with my dog and watch some JDramas on my MP3. So that would not be useful for me.

Just put a sticky note on your zune to cover the subs. Or a thick rubber band, or something.

then you need to edit the videos using a video editor like this one:

http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net

It's freeware and very useful.

wow, so excited for that. and to top it off, i heard this sesaon there's a bunch of shows worth watching compared to last season where there was like literally 0. so it works out.

if there's no raws available then, your choice is to cover up that part of the screen.
to encode it or whatever with the program is  a hassle/and time-cnonsuming as far as i know and... time is money.
