Maybe we can reorganize this forum a little bit.

I would merge RTK2&3 wit RTK1 but seeing as this is the core of the forum, I'd rather keep two sub forums there.

However in Learning Japanese we have 5 sub forums and perhaps we could merge one, which would open space for a Japanese only subforum.

I've noticed more and more the General discussion forum is used to discuss things that don't have direct relationship with learning the langauge as such (life in Japan, etc). General discussion could benefit by moving into a separate category because I'm seeing more and more non-learning topics such as "which rice cookers" and "drivers license how hard is it" (love to see those though! Especially the rice cookers one, awesome).

"Group Study" got on a good start and I think it's best to leave it alone.

I think there is some redundancy between "the japanese language" and "learning resources" though, so perhaps we need to do a little spr.. winter cleaning there?

Since this place is for YOU I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I don't see why the General discussion forum and the Community forum couldn't be merged into a forum in a separate category. I don't think the community forum is used much.

Also maybe RTK2&3 and RTK1 could be merged. I'm not sure, but I don't think RTK2&3 is used much.

A "life in Japan" permanent thread/category would be very nice and I'm sure of interest to most here.

Let's face it - we fall in to three categories.  Those that live in Japan, those that have lived there and those that plan to spend time there.  Sharing and learning about daily life in Japan would be of interest to all imho.

(And before anyone moans, I'm sure there is the odd exception.)

There should be a trolling section where people can just to go troll. /trolling.

I think the non-learning posts in the General forum could merged into community, and the rest into the Japanese Language forum(if it works that way).

I also agree RTK 1 2 & 3 should merged.

I know this is not what you referred to, but I would love having full rss feeds and a longer "Recent topics" list.

P.S. : Thanks for all your work and for creating this space for all of us.

I would vote to merge RTK1 with 2 and 3. Pretty much no-one uses 2 and 3 is just more of the same, so don't see why it needs a separate forum. Or we could just have 11 forums?

Agreed.  People usually tackle RTK3 kanji along with way and don't formally study the book.

Ok here's a tentative plan I'll let it simmer another week before making the changes:

Remembering Kanji
- Remembering the Kanji    (merged RtK 1 with Rtk2 & 3)

General Discussion
- General discussion
- Life in Japan : drivers license and rice cookers discussions smile

The Japanese Language (was "Learning Japanese")
- Learning Japanese (the old "General discussion" renamed with selected topics moved to the new "general discussion" or "life in japan" subforums)
- Group Study
- Learning Resources
- JLPT, Jobs & College in Japan

kanji.koohii.com
- Feedback

Some nice trimming there!

So some topics can be moved from the current "general dicsussion" to the other japanese language related topics, or probably the reverse: rename it to "learning japanese" and will move selected "community" and "life in japan" type topics to their new sub forums (less work).

I think there is no need to create a new subforum for "Life in Japan." General Discussion is enough.

But I think "JLPT, Jobs & College in Japan" could be merged with "General Discussion."

Yeah, I agree. That's whats mostly talked about in the general discussion forum anyway.

**Copy of what I posted in the request for Japanese Forum thread**
Perhaps this can go at the top of the Index page or somewhere conspicuous:

"Although topics and posts in the RevTK forums are commonly written in English, you are allowed to post in any language. Topics started in a language should generally be kept to that language out of consideration."

It's always been this way, but this way it's obvious to anyone.

@Ahibba

I think the JLPT, Jobs and College should not be merged with General discussion. That these are common subjects adds to the merit of it remaining a sub-forum.  If moderators increase, they can move threads that are inadvertently posted elsewhere.

Am I the only one who prefers the forums RTK1 and RTK2&3 separated? Those who only want to study the first part (and maybe switch to KO2001 at the end) can talk about it in the RTK1 section, and those who want more stuff would find it in the RTK2&3 section (and it's enticing to see an "advanced" section of the forum that you will be able to understand once you have finished the first book if you choose to continue with the 2nd or 3rd book). Well, that's my humble opinion...
