That's right, I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out and expect to be high on Vicodin and in pain for the next few days.

Preparation:
1. Reading lots of questions/answers on 知恵袋 regarding wisdom teeth.  I've noticed Japanese people are a lot more considerate of the people who have to yet to get the operation done.  On the other hand, many Americans on Yahoo Answers tell the terried people who asked questions that "it was 3 times as bad as child birth" or that "they should be expecting one of the most traumatic experiences of their life."
2. Early reviews using the 予習 feature recently added to Anki (in moderation)
3. Eating lots of chewy and/or crunchy food since I won't be doing that for awhile.
4. Shadow as much as possible while I can.

About what to do after it:
1. For this purpose I've got a huge stack/list of Japanese movies/episodes of stuff both tangible and computer.

If you have any other tips I'll be quite happy to hear them smile

I loooooved getting my wisdom teeth out. I'm usually very OCD about study and exercise and rarely take a break.

Being told that I had to lie down with my head back for 3 or 4 days was amazingly relaxing. The pain was negligible - it definitely wasn't incapacitating. The blood was annoying though, especially when your gums reopen when you thought they'd finally healed.

Just make sure you have a way to lie down & watch!

And it may not even be that bad for you. My girlfriend recovered ridiculously fast. She was eating solid food within hours after the op...

It wasn't too bad. The worst part for me was, about a week or so after the operation, my gums were still all cut up. I could eat solids again, but because my gums were cut up, eating *anything* was a miserable, miserable experience.

And yeah, you're not going to be in a condition to be doing any reviews for at least a day or two. Too hopped up on meds... So maybe try not to add much (or anything?) to Anki for a while before the operation.

I had a good experience with the wizzly teeth.  I went out with friends the same night like nothing ever happened.  I also giggled and slapped my dad in the face right after the op.  I could have studied no prob.

Get stoked!

You may or may not have pain....  I only had two wisdom teeth on the top, so my recovery period was very quick (I ate a hamburger that night), and I think I played frisbee that day.  I was still pretty woozy from the meds, so I could never really get the frisbee to go straight, but other than that minor inconvenience, I didn't really have any problems.

Have you ever been under anesthesia before?  If not, be prepared to be very confused when people tell you stories about what you did later.

I had never gone under before I had gotten my wisdom teeth out, but when I came too I was very upset that I couldn't leave immediately, flipped off a nurse, and made it out into the lobby before they tricked me into coming back and sitting down.

But damnit if I could make it to the lobby still standing I was certainly well enough to be driven home!

Improvement since the removal of the wisdom teeth:
1. I can walk (after effects of anesthesia gave me extreme nausea)
2. I don't sound like an 80 year old man eating mush
3. I'm no longer throwing up on nurses
4. Codine is giving me the illusion my mouth isn't filled with painful, gaping holes smile

Another thing, right when I woke up and people were still working all up in my mouth, I could only think in Japanese. I don't remember exactly what it was and whether it was even correct, but it was all stuff like "What's going on!? "What are they doing to me?!" "I'm already awake?" And I even said a few of them but it came out sounding like, as mentioned above, an elderly man eating oatmeal.  For someone reason I was thinking they'd really understand me though (as in, they'd understand Japanese).  Anesthesia screws people UP
