I've been playing around with a little idea that centers around tourism and train stations and I think I'm going to prototype my idea on Tokyo.  The essential problem to solve with my little idea is that of filtering the train stations in Tokyo down to the most essential ones for foreigner travelers.   Based on the size restrictions I'm placing on the project let's say you are limited to only 20 train stations.   So with that being said....

     1.  How would you rank the 20 most important train stations for foreigner travelers and what are they in your opinion?

     2.  Do you think such a limited number of stations would be sufficient for the majority of tourist activities within Tokyo?

Most tourists probably don't use 20 train or subway stations...

Major ones (for tourists):
東京駅 Tokyo Stn
上野駅 Ueno Stn
新宿駅 Shinjuku Stn
渋谷駅 Shibuya Stn
銀座駅 Ginza Stn
表参道駅 Omotesando Stn
原宿駅 Harajuku Stn
浅草駅 Asakusa Stn
六本木駅 Roppongi Stn
品川駅 Shinagawa Stn (easy shinkansen access if you stay in Shibuya area)
両国駅 Ryogoku Stn (sumo stables)

I think 20 is too many just for the major touristy places in Tokyo. Yamanote line will get you to almost everything.

Here's ten off the top of my head
Yamanote line -- Tokyo, Ueno, Akihabara, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Shimbashi, Shinagawa
Others -- Asakusa (Ginza line), Odaiba (Yurikamome line), roppongi

Sorry for not answering more in line with your questions

Actually this was the response I had hoped for.  When I got to thinking about it I had trouble coming up with 20 stations myself.

秋葉原, 丸の内.

Umm, I guess there are also some non-major stations that tourists might change at.

What's the purpose of this list?
