Check the main page of this very site.  Under the progress chart button. wink

um... maybe ive done too much studying today or something, but under the progress chart button, theres only how many users are reviewing today, and the site news? i can't find the word Trinity anywhere on the main page. Is it just the name for the RTK flashcards or something?

It's a new site by Fabrice, currently in Beta I think. It works somewhat like this site, but you can add your own stuff to it, like anki.

The fact that it evolved into something other than originally intended should have been reason enough to leave it alone.  It wasn't your thread at that point, it was the forum's, and deleting it was in bad taste.  You might have had the power, but not the right.

I mean seriously, if it was distracting you from your goals, you could have just closed the browser or something.  Nobody was forcing you to keep participating in the thread for as long as it existed.

too bad though, don't bash I couldn't take it back now anyways. But hey if I have the power to do something like that I assume the reason is so that I can do it if I want. If the powers at hand don't want us to be able to do that(I heard that they don't haha) then they should change whatever they need to change so that we can't do it. If the site is set up in a way that allows me to do something, and there are no specific rules on the forum telling me that I shouldn't or can't, then don't tell me that I can't do it. I'm rather narcissistic about my studies and if something is distracting me, I don't care if I have to end it (if I started it) even if others are interested. That was my creation and that was my thread where I wanted opinions about something, start a new thread and continue the argument if you guys want, but don't hijack mine and do that. 失礼しました。

Let alone tell me that I can't end it... what were there good points and great information on that thread? hell no... just bickering, I was even involved and admit it.

*!!! The nerve! big_smile

I am actually super on target already for today so I am taking a little forum break as I switch from 日本語 to 中国語 for the rest of the night.

I just did 80 sentences from Tae Kim today, and didn't bother with anything from the KO2001 for today! But now let's drill 100 mandarin vocab and see how many sentences that nets me!
Wait nah let just go for 10,000 senteces in one day! 語学の神だ!!!!

Yonosa,

You have the ability to delete threads that you start. It's an unfortunate exploit that's not intended. Now, here's the repercussions: I and others are not likely to respond to threads started by yourself. In addition, we're likely to do full quotes to in responses to you in other threads should we respond at all. The former is so our intellectual property is not arbitrarily destroyed. The later is so others can see why we're responding the way we do.

So yes, you can exploit methods not intended, but we don't have to play along. That last thread may not have evolved to your liking, but it did have insight into Japanese culture written from first hand experience by foreigners. I was disappointed to see it deleted.

However, thanks for the lesson, I'll be sure to apply methods adapting to it in the future.

When ファブリス locks a thread he usually gives a day or two notice that death is imminent.  If a thread is started and it gets out of hand, a little notice is also warranted before deleting it. I didn't read the other thread so I am not sure what happened, but it must have been interesting.  From what has been posted here, it seems ahibba is the big winner as all evidence of character damaging comments are gone forever smile
...Uh, could I privately request other threads I commented on be deleted as well tongue

Question is why Fabrice doesn't remove that ability. I mean, I know this is PunBB and not something he coded himself, but PunBB is still just web content which we know for a fact that Fabrice is good at working with. Seems odd that he shouldn't be able to simply go in and edit it, can't be a lot of code involved.

I wonder why the PunBB people wrote it like that in the first place. I can't imagine it being a good idea at any forum.

The simplest modification would probably be to take the "delete post" feature away from normal users.

Only certain animals do what they want when want it, only animals will do anything to satisfy their needs as long as they have the power or as long as nothing limits them. This is natural and fine, because they (most likely) lack the ability of higher abstract thinking.

I presume however, that you're an intelligent human and as such do posses this ability.
There is no formal law forbidding you to be unnice to other people, or, assuming that nobody catches you, there is nothing preventing you from stealing or killing somebody. I, however, would like to be neither robbed or killed, and that's why I believe it is probably a bad idea to do that to other people. Would you like somebody to delete your own posts? Something that you worked on, something that you found useful (I for example found the thread rather interesting, if only for the various (and enriching) range of arguments (and mind "schools") that  people were using), something that you exerted the effort to "build" ? . In a way, writing posts is a kind of intellectual work, and every intellectual work I write carries a part of myself. Be erasing it, you may have made some people feel like they had lost that part.

Also, similar to what Mcjon01 has already well said, if you think of it from the "mathematical"  point of view, than there was really nothing the post was doing to you- it didn't stomp on your toes, it didn't wake you up from sleep, it wasn't playing any modern songs. Zero minus points. On the other hand, it was very useful for the others, intersting to read, nice to think about. Three plus points.
Overally, it was much better for it to exist than not to.

You cannot pass your responsiblity to some "higher being" or system, just because that system is flawed- if you do, than be ready for the system to take over your rights as well.

AYE AYE! CAPTAINS!
Respectable forum gods and in the case of NukeMarine! I SALUTE YOU! military officer sir(not a fan of the military but) will do, I do admit, perhaps that was a tad of a greedy way to get rid of a distraction, but technically for those of us doing the AJATT way, we shouldn't even be on this site to begin with!.。.:*・゚゚・(´ー`).。*・゚゚・*:.。. *(SO people know, I hate those smiley face things, seriously, I really despise them with my whole black heart that pumps the poison of hatred that is my blood through my body(being this expressive makes me remember the thread on here that people said I was obviously not fluent in english oh oh here we go again:βακα..._〆(゚▽゚*)!>_< !) I just use them often for the "WTF is a grown man using those stupid little things for" affect.)

OK.  I suggest we all voluntarily subject to urine tests before being allowed to post on this forum.

Yeah, that way we can be reminded that we aren't high individually, but homogeneously as a group.

As long as vocabulary lists are involved, you can make use of Rikaichan's ability to add words - with their respective readings and meanings - into a plain text file.

1.- Set the vocabulary file through Rikaichan's options.

2.- (Optional, but very convenient) Create a shortcut pointing to your Rikaichan text file and put it somewhere easy to access - for example, the quickstart bar.

3.- Whenever you want to add a word to your wordlist, activate Rikaichan and put the mouse over the word -so that Rikaichan displays its meaning - and press "s".

4.- Do whatever yo want to do with your wordlist.

Aw, c'mon Garland, that was a bit rude comparing it to animals, give Yonosa some slack, it was done and was in bad taste to some who have expressed it, it's time to leave it.

Yonosa, you sound a bit... young?

Your own personal study habits don't give you the right to be a dick.

On one hand, you're famous here, I'll remember your name for some time, in the sense that I won't be clicking on topics you've written, as you've shown that posting in them is potentially a waste of time according to the fickle whims of your attention span. On the other hand, you're absolutely right, in that you shouldn't be wasting time on these forums anyway, as that is time that could otherwise be spent studying.

Nice idea. Actually, there are many programs which do the same thing like:

http://www.banaban.net

I made a similar program using the freeware AutoHotKey. My program has another advantage. When you select the unknown word, you press a key to copy it as a question, then you can select the whole sentence and press another key to copy the sentence as an answer (as an example sentence for that word.)

Everything is done automatically, you don't need to switch endlessly between applications while producing the list. It saves the switching back and forth, as well as all of the pasting.

Okay. I'd like that. Do you have a link to your or some other's freeware solution? Thank ye kindly.
