I'm so upset about Micheal Jacksons untimely death. He was one of my idols growing up with his amazing dancing skills and compositional genius. I think he was a really nice person who was perhaps a bit naive by trying to live out a childhood he had never had in his forties but he was a victim of greed and the beast of ignorant public opinion. I will always remember him for his talent and civil rights work and none of those bullshit rumours. Rip Micheal

A victim of greed and the beast of ignorant public opinion? Yeah, sure.
He messed up his own life and there's no one else to blame but himself...

Anyway, RIP.

He will be missed in Japan.  He seems to still be revered as a superstar over there and most everyone who mentioned him to me believed he was persecuted unfairly by American media.
His was a tragic life.  He was undoubtedly emotionally/mentally/socially disturbed.  I hope he has found peace what ever plane he resides in now.  Personally, I will miss Farah Faucet more.

Personally, I will miss Sky Saxon more.   sad

Anyway, Jacko sure pushed music forward in the 80s. No doubt about that. Sad sad day.

He was one *FINE* looking dude, too.  I mean he was a prince.  Why he wanted to become "white", with a nose that looked like it was stolen from a large bird, will forever be a mystery I guess.

When I went to Hawaii with my (then) fiancee (now my wife, who is Japanese), she insisted on staying under a beach umbrella.  "Don't you want to get a tan?", I asked her.  "No, I want to be white, just like Michael Jackson," she replied.  I ask you how many Japanese gals are going to come up with that answer?  smile

A major loss in the music industry. An icon that will remain with us forever. RIP MJ!

The best pop voice imho.

Will you believe me if I tell you that I can't recognize the voice of this man?

I never listened to a song by him. Not even once!

I know him, and his picture, and I know that he's called the king of pop, but I have not had the chance to listen to this kind of music.

I also never listened to Elvis Presley, John Lennon, or the Beatles!

Thank you stoked for the link.

But sorry, I didn't understand the meaning of "epic fail." As you know, I'm not an English native speaker. Can you paraphrase it in different words?

Michael Jackson was awesome and has made some of the best music ever.

Too bad his public image was completely destroyed these last years.

Cause of death: someone showed him a mirror?

Anyway, loved his music esp. when I was a kid.  His talent will never be forgotten.  R.I.P.

It's sad when anyone dies, but I for one will sleep more soundly at night.

I don't want to sound mean, but he scared the crackers out of me (yes, human beings are filled with crackers, it's a giant medical cover-up) tongue

Only white people are filled with crackers.  Ever heard a dark skinned person called "Cracker"?  hmm

He was my big idol when I was a kid until I saw the new Bad video and went WTF!? He made some great songs, but I personally feel he was massively overrated and didn't really deserve the "King of pop" title. Seems he died with debts of around 400 million dollars, I'd like to know how the hell you manage that. Anyway, RIP Michael.

I used to be a casino dealer in Las Vegas.  His antics were legend.  He would go into an art gallery and buy up basically the whole place for a $1 million or more.  A few days later, his clean-up guys would return everything and explain that "Michael doesn't have the money to pay for it".

Wow! Are you serious?!

Yeah, he was in debt, but his finances were getting better right before he died; i was looking forward to his comeback, but now he lives on through his music alone, and that is how he should be remembered.

R.I.P., King of POP.

it's not specially japan , he still was a superstar all over the world.....
being hated doesn't mean you're not a superstar anymore .This very topic in a japanese related forum  is enough of a proof .  His death can be considered like the first internet event : 3 best itunes sales, 17 of 20 best amazon sales , twitter and google on the verge of collapse (for a while  it was thought to be the latest hacker attack) ,.....

he didn't WANT to become white : he had vitiligo and lupus  . Get your facts right.

For his nose ok he was quite messed up . But consider that his father berated him all during his childhood about his " big nose"   and that on the beginning he wasn't specially looking for rhinoplasty . He broke his nose during one of his choregraphy and the surgeon botched it (he had difficulty to breathe) ... so he couln't but take it again .... starting this point chilhood complex , mental weakness , f.... ultra rich and some serious ground to remake it .... Most of the stars nowadays take this operation with barely half of this reasons.

No  he made a f..... mistake when he began to dissiminate false rumor about himself to feed the hype . Starting then he ceased to be a mere superstar  to become THE freak . He really screwed up on this.

Yeah, his nose ... messed up would be putting it mildly, I guess.  And neither

Yeah, the nose ...

Neither vitiligo nor lupus would indicate a shape change that dramatic, or even at all.  And while I'm sure his father could have been a son of a bitch, a lot of people survive fathers that are sons of bitches without so much apparent damage.

You didn't mention the eyebrows, which are also not affected by either of those diseases.  This man did not merely lighten his face, he went for such an androgynous look that it was almost, as Aijin said, frightening.  Anyone who was familiar with his face in the early 80s was freaking *shocked* by the Santa Barbara County mug shot.  My .... God!  This was not a face.  This was a mask.  A caricature, and a nasty one at that.

Great talent for sure.  Twisted psyche for sure.  Probably lived with a lot of internal pain that most of us don't have to deal with.  Probably influenced his art, too.  But in the end he was a bit of a wreck, both physically and artistically.  Why this is a common trait from Jim Morrison to (insert your favorite artist's name here), I don't know.  But it is.

I would rather say  the man dies and people start talking about him again.... how he was great , how they're happy to see this f.... n..... and child molester at last dead, how he was a symbol for the black people ,.... bla bla bla  . You have paris hilton's quotes  right next franck sinatra's and fred astaire's  !!!
it's slightly pathetic . The sudden surge in the sales of his albums in the wake of his death is even more pathethic. C'mon if you loved his music you didn't have to wait up his death to buy his albums . And if you were not so much in love with it I don't see the point of buying it now. while the guy was a financial wreck  there is this splash of cash the very moment he doesn't it anymore.

The whole damn circus makes me sick.

He didn't say vitiligo nor lupus affected his nose.  It was from breaking his nose, then plastic surgery after surgery to fix it.  And he had a cleft surgically put in his chin.
