Are any of the people going to the meet up, Veggies? Because ramen is not OK for Veggie folks!

I'm probably just a muppet, but I'm finding it really hard to work out from the train of the discussion what the actual plans are for meeting Fabrice. (I wasn't sure whether all the meetings being discussed are open to all.)

I live in Tokyo and just want to know what the day and location are for meeting Fabrice. Can anyone help please?

It's about time we started sorting out numbers, isn't it. brose has suggested a plan for Saturday 21st.

At the last RTK get together, there was an understanding that the people going were all people from the forum. That's not to say you can't bring a friend but a lot of the talk was of the kanji koohii variety...

So yeah, with regards to the Tokyo 21st get together, are you in or what?

Attendees so far (I think): brose, scooter, woelpad, me, MWB (if he's free), ihatefall (if you wanna watch us eat ramen!) and of course Fabrice.

I am down for whatever. I can meet up with you guys, grab someone's number while I am there. While you guys eat ramen, I  can just do my own thing for lunch and then get back in touch with you guys. (I can easily hit up the Mos Burger in Aki, or if the line is long I will run to get Indian or something.)

I am really easy going, so its all good.

Synewave, thanks for the email. Unfortunately, I can't do the 21st.

I noticed that on his schedule, Fabrice says that he's in Tokyo, staying with Scooter, from 23-6 April. Is there a meeting that I could tag along to during that period?

There's no meeting planned for when he's here, but he does have intention of visiting some places. Perhaps you can schedule to meet him. (I don't know how much Internet access he has at the mo'. Fabrice?)

Hi Scooter, Thanks for the email.

Fabrice says on the homepage that he's not sure if he'll access to internet until he gets back to Belgium. Perhaps you could mention it to him when he comes to stay, and if he's up for another group meeting in Tokyo during the week, we can organise something then. If he has access to internet when he's staying with you, I'm guessing that, as the website administrator, he has my email address.

I really don't want to pressure the poor guy though. Fabrice, if you are reading this, feel free to knockback on a mid-week Tokyo meeting if you have your own sightseeing plans. I'm sure you have more interesting things to do in your brief stay in Japan!

I suggest we meet 1 PM on Saturday 21 April at the JR Akihabara Station. Use the Electric Town (電気街) exit.

It's a small world after all! I happen to be arriving in Japan on the 21st!
I have been using the website religiously for the past few months. It is really an amazing website. Adds so much value to the book. I would really like to stop by at the get together and say hi, but I don't think I'll be able to make it, seeing as how I'll be tired from the flight and already have dinner plans. sad

Well, have fun guys!

See you then. Looking forward to some quality ramen. What do you normally order?

The main add-ins are 角肉(boiled chunks of pork)、味玉子、and めんたい. I don't like めんたい but the others are really good. I also usually get  替え玉 (a refill of noodles).

So it looks like 1:00 at Akihabara.  I really would like to make it, but Wife and Baby and I are going to the US next week, and I think I'm going to have a hard time getting away.  I'll give it a shot.  Can one of you guys email me with you keitai number?  I'll call if I'm going to make it.  If not give Fabrice my best.

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the limited communication but until now browsing the internet was the last thing on my mind since arriving in Japan smile

Things are going great, I'm having a wonderful time here. I've been to Nara, Nagoya Suisokan (aquarium), Kyoto (Sagano, Higashiyama 2 day), Uji, Himeji castle, Osaka, .. I've tried Osaka's たこ焼、お好み焼き、昆布、にしん cha-soba in Uji, etc. all sorts of tea, sweets, and of course the ever-so-handy 自動販売機 (じどうはんばいき) (the can vending machines), very handy when it gets a little cold in early evening and you get one of those warm cans wink

I came at the perfect time in April to enjoy the cherry blossoms in Kyoto, particularly along the "philosopher's path" and around Himeji castle! I've got tons of photos already and I hope to put up a nice gallery when I'm back, probably link to it somewhere on the site.

Today I forgot the camera cable when coming to this internet cafe in Osaka Tennouji APOLO super store thing, but I think it will be difficult to transfer the photo, resize it and upload it from here. We will surely post a photo soon after the get together anyway, 待っててね!

Get together!

At the time of writing plans are not 100% clear for em either smile  Until the 21st it's all Japanese for me, I'm quite busy with my host family and the sight seeing. From the 21st I expect to talk a lot more of english with Jeffrey, Scott and Mario, and everyone at the get together so from the 21st on it should be a lot easier for me to arrange a meeting here or there in Tokyo or Gifu or Chiba.

Saturday 21

I have the ShinOsaka-Tokyo ticket arranged, we bought one a tad cheaper at one of those shops that sell second hand (?) tickets (not sure what they are exact). Let me check...

We went to exchange a ticket at the JR booth some I'm not sure these hours can be changed now but it looks alright:

APRIL 21, 新大阪(9:27)、東京(12:00) Nozomi   12番E席 (seat)

Looks like I could make it to Akihibara on time? I'm getting used to the rail system now, but maybe I can meet someone in Tokyo station?

I didn't buy a prepaid keitai as planned but can still do today or tomorrow... I thought it would have been interesting to play with even if I couldnt call with it in Belgium.

I'm going to leave the icafe here and then plan to call woelpad, and perhaps Scooter and decameron as well. Scooter & decameron if I don't call you today or tomorrow chances are it's because it will be much more handy for me once I meet up with woelpad in Chiba.

See you soon!

Fabrice called me just now. I was in the middle of explaining which platform to go to for a train to Akihabara, when the line broke off. Bad reception on my part it seems. Fabrice, if you read this, it's platform 3 or 4, Yamanote- or Keihintohoku-line. Akihabara is one of the first stops. See you all there.

EDIT Fabrice called back about an hour later. All set now. Didn't read synewave's message though. I'm passing through Tokyo station also, but I think I'll go directly to Akiba. Easier to meet up with a crowd.

Obviously Fabrice is able to get to Akihabara on his own but seeing as he asked I can meet him at Tokyo station if he wants someone to show him the left luggage place, or whatever.

See you all on Saturday for some ramen, RTK banter and some foaming nut brown ale.

bit late looking at this, but I would like to meet some of you guys on Saturday. I have to work until 5 so I won't be able to get into Tokyo until around 6pm. Do you think you will still be around at that time?

Can someone who is DEFINITELY going, Email me thier keitai email (so I can text message), Saturday is really busy for me but I want to meet up.
In the morning there is yabusame (those riding archers) in Asakusa. Its also the Earth Day weekend in Yoyogi koen, the night before there is a great German DJ in Tokyo. I also have a few other things to go to! But I DEFINITELY want to squeeze this in!

brose - is there a BookOFF close by to where we're going tomorrow? I wouldn't mind having a look at what's available in a Tokyo sized store. Just a thought.

There is a Book-Off nearby but it is a 小型店舗.

If you want to watch Yabusame, it is only 10 minutes from Asakusa to 末広町駅 on the Ginza line, which is close to the ramen shop.

Fabrice, if you get the chance to do the Osaka aquarium, I highly recommend it.  I'm not an aquarium guy, and it blew me away.  And the お好み焼き!  I'm going to have to get some tonight in Brooklyn (not quite the same, but definitely a treat).  Have fun!

I didn't reply earlier coz me and Christoph will probably be leaving around that time (5 or 6 ish). The last get together in Kamakura went on later, but again, I left early evening.

If we go for beers, I can't imagine everyone will be leaving before 6.

I don't believe we know, hence no answer. It would be best to call one of us before you start out. (I don't have a cell phone, so it will have to be someone else.)

Earlier, you caught my attention with the mention of "foaming nut brown ale."
