Found a great site for kanji lyrics

http://music.goo.ne.jp

Just type the band name(you might need to find the japanese name) in the search and then click on the link that has "(CD)" at the end.

A list of all CDs will come up. Click on a CD and if you see the words " 歌詞を見る"
next to a song title, then there are kanji lyrics!

goo.ne.jp is a famous japanese search engine.
This site is legal. So no worries about the site being taken down for kanji lyrics.

Probably the largest collection of kanji lyrics out there.=
Have fun.

I think that if you use IE, you won't be able to copy and paste texts from that site. No problems with Firefox, though I remember having to use CNTL+C to copy as right clicking was not working on that site.

Other than that, it's a great resource. I used it so I could print out lyrics for karaoke songs I wanted to practice.

I have an OSX dash widget that automatically downloads lyrics and inserts them into id3 tags whenever I play a track in iTunes. It also displays them in the dash of course.

It rarely fails to find the lyrics for a Japanese song.

actually utamap and utanet may be bigger than goo.... no the real turn on with goo is that instead of displaying lyrics through a flash file which prevents copy as most of the japanese lyrics databanks does  ,  it's a casual text and you can put it in your lyrics player (either TTplayer  or minilyrics which is more user-friendly) The  drawback is that goo search engine is so  flawed that sometimes it fails to find the song you're looking for.... whereas if you google it with 歌詞  9 out of 10 times  the goo link appears !

goo + mini lyrics = perfect combo

Nice. Any recommendations for windows users?

I've petitioned Songbird developers to add unicode support to their lyrics plugin but to no avail.

Wow, thanks for that link Jarvik7.  Will come in handy when I actually import some JPN cds, just need to find a good site for that now.

www.cdjapan.co.jp is probably the biggest Japanese CD internet retailer.
Not finding a CD on their site is liking saying that the CD doesn't exist in Japan...

I'm sure there are places with better deals, but their selection is top-notch.
It's also good for finding which albums are full albums and which are singles(or even just good for finding ALL of an artist's CDs).

Anyway good luck.

Well, crap. Apparently most of my favorite Japanese bands don't exist in Japan. And only three of Boris's albums? Sacrilege!

I've sorta given up on looking up lyrics, personally, since it's usually an exercise in futility for me. Better I try and decipher by ear and from repetition, which has strengthened my lyrical listening skillz quite a bit.

http://music.goo.ne.jp definitely looks handy, though!

さすがJarvik7!  This widget is excellence.  smile

Chamcham: you can copy and paste lyrics from TunesText by clicking on the little "i" for information at the bottom left-hand corner of the widget, then going into "Editor".

For myself, however, I'm a little hesitant to put lyrics from this widget into Anki.  I used to look up the lyrics for songs in English all the time, and more often than not there were mistakes or typos.  Before I put this stuff into my deck, I want to make sure it's 100% on the level.  Until then, however, gonna have a good time reading along while I jam.

Burritolingus, I just noticed your location description and lost it here at my desk for several seconds.  T'anks for adding a bit more brightness to this sunny morning.  smile

zanzibar, I think that is because many of the English lyrics are transcribed by hand and often words aren't so clear in songs.

But in Japan, they often publish the complete lyrics in the CD packet. So I'd suspect that most of the Japanese lyrics don't have many(if any) errors.

Point taken.  Perhaps I'll give it a try, then.

After all, it's not too shabby if you can multitask in Anki with reading/listening/karaoke practice all at once. smile
