Not sure this is the best place to ask but ... I've just switched to using Ubuntu on my PC and I have noticed that some of the kanji in the review cards are not showing up properly. For example 強 (1235) is displayed with a mouth primitive instead of an 'elbow' primitive.

I'm also seeing this for kanji with the thread primitive where the bottom three strokes are showing up as somthing close to the 'fire' four dots.

Anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it?

Your browser selected a Chinese font.

That used to happen with my work computer.  I didn't bother fixing it because I figured exposure to alternate forms of the kanji would be good.

Japanese text display always takes a little tweaking in ubuntu and firefox, but then it gets great.
Here's another guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=975144 (it's for 7.10 but it should work anyway)

Thanks guys! Installing the fonts suggested in the links you gave worked!

The links have instructions for Ubuntu 8.x but even though I'm on jaunty (9.x) it worked. All I needed to do was install the fonts.

Much appreciated!

I spoke too soon sad Installing the fonts fixed my Firefox issue but my Anki is still displaying incorrectly.

Probably best I ask the Anki mailing list wink

You need to set the newly installed Japanese font as your question/answer font in Anki. Go to Settings > Font and Colours. Anki probably just selected the best available font on install, so you need to let it know you've made a better option available.

I installed a new font set and that fixed it. The fonts were kochi-mincho and kochi-gothic

I suggest the VL ゴシック and especially the VL Pゴシック fonts if you can find them. I find them very pleasing to the eyes.
