First of all, I dunno if this has been reported because I'm ashamed to say I didn't read the whole thread... but I'll just mention it anyway since if it has been reported, it at least hasn't been altered yet.

I'm not even sure if this can be considered a "bug" - probably not - but I'm missing the "drawing grid" option. I didn't really care about the grid itself, I just like that the kanji are shown in a larger font when you use it on the original site (especially because I'm using the altered font with the stroke order numbers and that can easily get a little messy, what with all these little numbers in the kanji). Personally, I wouldn't like to see this option removed. Just thought I'd mention it.

Oh, and something else... and I dunno if this is just me, but when I am restudying a bunch of failed kanji in the Study page, and I add a story to one (I've made it a habit to add the story only when it failed for this new account I made for the test site), upon showing the next failed kanji after that, the same story has been added to this new kanji! If I'm right and that's a bug, that seems a rather major one.

(Here used to be a link to a picture showing what it looks like)

I like the option at the review status-page; "View: simple or full". And thats the first thing I noticed, would be nice if you could choose your personal default setting, so that the button can already be marked on "full" for example, as soon as you enter the review status (and maybe the same for "Filter: ALL, RTK1, RTK3").
Keep it up!

Seconded big_smile Or if that's not possible, I'd rather have it on full by default than on simple.

New site is looking great!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned somewhere, but are there any plans to add a handwritten form of the kanji along with the print form?

When reviewing I always write the kanji on paper and this would help my penmanship.

Thanks

Hi MrPhil - This is pretty easy to set up using Greasemonkey - a Firefox add-on.  Changing fonts isn't built into the site natively (although such a feature would be wonderful).

The greasemonkey script is here.

You pick your font from here (accessible from your profile page).

I like YOzFontEF90 as a handwritten font. Check out this thread for more.

I believe フアブリス is planning on porting the font picker over to the new site, too (although the greasemonkey script may break until someone has a chance to update it for the new site).

I have it working for the test site. Same for most of my other scripts. I'm just waiting for the test site to move to production.

Yeah sorry got a little burned out (almost litterally, damned heat X_X), changing my schedules. I have two points that must be fixed before moving to production: the progress page, and the study page bug reported by Whatsifsowhatsit (it doesn't copy the story, but show story of frame number x, with the rest of framenumber x+1, due to the url).

Then I continue with the list I posted previsouly, about half of that list is done (rows per page options, remembering table sort in session etc).

Oh yeah, I wasn't sure what the bug did exactly, I just figured something was wrong tongue alright, glad to have been able to report it. Good luck with fixing all that, ファブリス (and with the heat). Btw, I didn't realize before that you were from Belgium smile

Err, I'll remove the picture now, btw tongue

Is this normal behavior in the review section:
- yesterday I cleared all kanji (was about to restart rtk and test the new site)
- I added the first 100 kanji
- did a review -> got split up into two piles of 50 (50 for 1 review  & 50 for 2reviews) (I guess clicking 'easy' puts it in the '2 reviews' immediately)

ok:
- so today I added another 50
- They got split over those 2 first boxes
- but some that I reviewed today immediately got into the three reviews box (3passes , box 4)

That's what I encountered. For the rest, I love it smile the new style and so on.

Minor note: I think I logged in the with my existing account into the test website. Because I'll lose all my progress on the test site - as you told us - I'll also start over on the normal website.

Can't you put the remaining bugs for a next update? xD

I'm sorry. I'm in a motivation dip at the moment. I realize how silly it is to have a working test site there with some valuable improvements and to stop a couple days of work ahead of updating the live site.... on the other hand I don't want to force myself to work on the site if I don't feel like it. Also have a challenging project at work with impossible deadlines which saps my energy... at least I'm learning Yahoo's YUI which is cool. So... short of having a motivation pill, I just hope it will pass quickly and can't promise anything. hmm

Boss,

No worries.  We love all the cool stuff you give us for free, and understand how these things go.  I wish you some luck with the work deadlines, and I wish us all some peace.

With a gentle bow:

-John

A bug to report. Even though I've added five lessons worth of Kanji, the progress thing still says 'fifteen to go before you complete lesson 1'. Unfortunately I don't know if this has already been reported, so sorry if I'm just wasting your time.
By the way, the new site looks awesome.

With the release of the Google Chrome Frame plugin for IE, would this make site development any easier (and as a side-effect, quicker)?  Supposedly IE (mainly IE6) is a real pain to make websites for from the need to use many tricks and hacks just to make a site viewable.

Is it something to do with my screen resolution or does everyone have to scroll down after every card to answer it now? They used to fit on one page perfectly.

@Rael89: Yup, happens to me too. A higher resolution would probably help but hmm

After every answer it scrolls back to the top, so unless I want to keep scrolling after every card, I have to make the browser fullscreen in order to go through the reviews.

On the upside, the fullscreen reviews (see first post) are rather nice and they fix this problem.

Not seeing that particular problem myself, but maybe my resolution (1280x1024) is high enough to avoid it. I do have to ask though (and admitting I haven't read this thread), does not hitting End mean you lose those reviews now? It mentioned a warning about it when i tried navigating away without hitting it. Just curious how something like a browser crash after doing 100+ reviews would affect things.

That being said, I love the new look and how much quicker the reviews feel. smile

@Rael89  Will look at it tomorrow. You can use the (currently hidden) fullscreen option: start a review session, then add "/fullscreen" in the url so it looks like this :

   http://kanji.koohii.com/review/fullscreen?type=...

Or use the keyboard shortcuts: Y, N, E(asy), F or SPACE to flip card.

@lerris   Currently the flashcard "caching" is maximum 10 cards. This makes a drastic difference in terms of requests to the server, at the same time you can never loose more than 10 reviews if your laptop battery runs out or something smile

It's important to note that Opera users won't see the alert box if they try to leave the page without clicking "End" (but the max "caching" still applies).

You should always click "End" review now. In practice I think that's what most users do.
If you're in a really long review and want to end it early, you must click "end" to avoid loosing the last flashcard answers, even if you're not interested in the review summary.
