Yeah it's a very minor thing I suppose but what's the reason you can't copy too fast after giving a story a star? Of course I want to pick it as fast as I can but I also want to show my appreciation - now I find myself just skipping the stars because it's so annoying. Can you at least change the error message? "Not too fast buddy!", as I read it, sounds condescending and just blegh.

Thanks

You cheeky little blighter. What right have you to complain over a free service! Although I'm sure you'll receive a decent response from the admin, he's a nice guy.

Maybe a copied story should automatically register as a star.  Hmm....

I agree with this. Of course, and remove the star if you drop it and copy another or write your own. Evidently, the other story you copied receives the star.

So, rather than starring stories because they sound good first hand, eventually the system would correct itself and let sprout stories that are actually effective. If you never have to drop a story (assuming you are not lazy and actually use another) it will always stay starred by you. The stories actually used by more people would be the ones with better rating.

Which is exactly what the Copy Story script does for quite some time now. Clicking one of the single letter links next to a story gets the story starred. The copied story itself is followed by the author's name and story date. Removing that signature (or the whole story) will automatically unstar the story. Very intuitive and I wouldn't mind seeing the same logic implemented on the server side.

I'm at 800 and I've been copying all the stories with cut and paste.  I didn't realize that icon was there to copy the story until now.  aaahhh oh well.

Hey I tried the program out. It is nice. But I didn't get how to use it at first, had to dig up your site at http://sites.mpc.com.br/ric/nihongo/ from the script doc to find out how I actually used the program... Just a note saying that what you use is the [+] button either in the description or in the introduction of the script would probably help.

Thanks for all the replies, glad to see I'm not the only one bugged by this! (oh and we helped out a couple lost souls finding the copy button so that's a bonus)

I liked it. An entirely unexpected winking reprimand.

It's not too difficult to avoid multiple repeats (which, after all, is the intended effect).

Is it possible that you're reading it with a more serious tone than intended? (I mean...condescending?)

That is not my site, but Ricardo's, the original script author. His original description (without pictures sad ) is in this forum message.

I made the script summary a lot more verbose, for anyone revisiting the download page.

Surreal, I have lowered the "cooldown" interval so that it should be far less annoying. The 1 second cooldown was too long, thanks for reminding me about it.

Yes, the javascript/frontend side "cooldown" interval is a simple solution to what is sometimes referred as "throttling". The website is not hosted on a dedicated server, and a minimum amount of prevention also needs to be inplace for the unintended double clicks, to avoid sending double requests and sending unnecessary server requests.

I also at first changed the text to something far more insipid, and then decided to restore it to the original. It can be seen as condescending perhaps, although my dictionary says "buddy" also means "mate" or "friend". Regardless life would be very annoying without this message so I let it in wink

PS: I understand that Surreal was simply irritated by the long pause required between clicks, and probably felt more negative about the message than would have otherwise.

PPS: forgot to say, that is in the upcoming update, which goes on test this weekend, so the change will be effective very soon.

That episode became a running joke with a few friends! Maybe that's why I thought the surprise message was funny. Unfortunately, I still blurt out the occasional 'mate' or 'buddy' as a result. (I've been told only guys say it. hmm)

Indeed... I don't think they did it for that long in the actual episode though.

Hey just checked back on the topic and all I have are praises for fixing it so fast, looking forward to the update! (you are correct about the message info too - pretty much anything with an exclamation mark is read/heard in an irritating way after you get it 20+ times for doing something that's 'wrong' that's not. kind of like "GET ON THE HYDRA'S BACK!", y'know?)

Could it be that the lowered "cooldown" has negative aspects, too?

In my last review I wondered that I had finished so fast. Then I realized that whenever I pressed "Y" or "N" always two Kanji "passed" or "failed". However, when I use the mouse everything is fine and only one Kanji is "passed" or "failed".

Or is this just a problem with my computer?

@Peppi: the change is on TEST, it's not on kanji.koohii.com.
