So yesterday I had a strange occurence.  A buddy emailed me to get together and rehash some old Magic: The Gathering goodness and I responded
"KAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNJIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
because, well, I was in the middle of a 60 kanji run.  He responded back, and then I did, and before I knew it we were having a full blown out kanji war dual-author-fan-fiction style of two wizards fighting each other using Heisig's keywords (with intractely describe primitives as they were drawn, carved, broken, formed by power out of trees, enacted out wholly or otherwise するed.)

It turns out to be a pretty fun catalyst for what I could only deem as "fan fiction" I guess.  Anybody ever run across something like this?

I pull out a hose and attach a dagger to its mouth.  The water sprays out and quickly forms a miry swamp which.. well.. swamps your elephant.  I detach the knife and use the tip to carve a 'ball' 'request' shape into the metal at it's rim.  The spray of water instantly changes to a stream of solid rubber spheres which I direct at Mr. T in an attempt to knock him into the bog.

Running to the edge of a nearby cliff I swing over and scratch 万 on the sandstone.  I struggle back over the top and using some stones lying there form a 力 in the dirt.  The effect on your ancient dragons feeble minds is instantaneous and with that Encouragement the fling themselves over the cliff to their death.

Turning towards your lofty platform I pull a dried sunflower out of my well stocked pack.  I rip a needle like thorn from a nearby bush and hold it over the petals.  Both of them dissolve into a fine mist which I brush towards the sky.  The patch grows absurdly large and starts to twist and malform your perch as it crests into Morning.  You lose your footing and fall with a *thud* onto the dirt field.

That's basically what it was like.  Only his last move was awesome and then mine required a three page counterattack.  We also ended up defining the magic system that was used in that world via the back-and-forth.  But obviously we'd change it however we liked when we start a new one.

鬱 You spend so long trying to decipher the primitives that you die of old age.

I would if Japanese people were any fun to play with.  I played with a group all the time in the US.  We had a blast, made decks, generally hung out and had fun with cool innovative ideas testing our design against the game.  So far in Japan every shop I've tried to get in on it's all about winning.  They have no definition for "casual" in their life.  So I don't play anymore, as the entertainment value is akin to rolling dice to see who wins.  Only I only have a 2 sided dice because I play with fun cards and they all play with tournament decks copied off the net.
