Some forum software allows you to block the posts from certain users. Is it possible on this site? While 95% of people on this site are great, every so often a user comes along whose every post is just so annoying, I just can't be bothered reading whatever crap they wrote.

You seem to have a fat Richard. I have a fat Richard too. Maybe we should rub them together sometime. Your Richard, and my Richard, rubbing.

^probably that kind in addition to the above?

@MeNoSavvy : No, there are no built-in features to hide posts from specific users on this forum.

Maybe I'm not awake enough yet, but I don't really share you guys sense of humor. Rude, and hardly amusing.

The above 3 posts show how serious they took your post. Consider it a hint at your immaturity and intolerance.

There are a few posters/posts that i cant tolerate. I have argued, when it gets to be too much of a time waster for me, or if it is a senseless argument to begin with i state it so.  Its not like their posts are bashing me in the face forcing me to read it, use a mouse it allows you to scroll past one post, many posts, or even a thread.

Sounds like you don't have much forum experience anyway. There's usually 10 billion times more rubbish out there on other forums.

I must say that I'm a bit nonplussed at this request . RVKforum is one of the most serious and mind challenging  forum out there ! Throughout my japanese studies I've never stumble accross something close to it   and I've took a look at plenty of them  . Even How to Learn any language for its japanese part is frequently refering to this forum !
the actual headquarters of AJATT believers  and Anki at least for the pratical use, the support forum of sub2srs , the source of the KO2001 project ,  one of the best japanese subtitles cross section database  , and a lot of small projects I am ashamed not to refer ....   not to mention of course the reference forum about Heisig method . Every week I'm compelled to go to japanese classes and for 2 hours I feel just like Evil dead's Ash ...that is to say being stuck in middle age . Every time I pitch one of the idea we casually talk about here , they gape at me like I'm a kind of alien . There is so much content in this forum , so many fledging or well grown projects that I can't help but  think that a newcomer is  too impressed and bewildered to dare behave in a childish way let alone an unrespectful way.

I would never say that usually , as it would become a ground for flamewar,  but would you mind give us an exemple of someone you deem as annoying?

More like the admin's new account.  Do you not recall his previous account name, or his actual name?

It's Fabrice, my reviewing account.

I'm not sure it's necessary to point fingers? YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary). Different people have different ways of expressing their thoughts, you get used to it ;-)

Maybe Japanese language and culture attract the serious minded and respectful. Or maybe the subgroup that undertakes the daunting task of mastering Kanji as adults are a no nonsense, focused lot.

I'll certainly need to be more focused if I am to announce any landmark progress in this forum any time soon. I cannot possibly imagine even trying to master Kanji without Heisig, it's hard enough as it is.

I'm pretty much aware of that . That's why I never thought that anyone here was REALLY annoying . We can argue but it's always about something worth of it and  in a respectful way.
"don't feed the troll" is almost  an expression from an alien world.

I see that not everyone is that enthusiastic about the ability to block posters. I don't really want to single out anyone by giving an example of who I would block. I don't read that many forums regularly because they are filled with crap. This is one of the few I read nearly everyday. It is not so much that anybody is in your face obnoxious, but more that some people seem to persistently post comments that don't really add much value, and when you are going through a long thread trying to find useful information it slows you down.

Typically when I read through a thread I don't look at the posters name at first, I just follow the flow of discussion. Sometimes someone will just be quite argumentative, and their comments aren't particularly insightful. And when I check the name the same people seem to show up over and over again. Certainly if you could block them you wouldn't miss anything of value. By filtering out that noise, the signal to noise ratio would be increased, and the value of the time on this forum maximized.

The first few posts on this thread are examples of people who shouldn't bother trying to be funny. Similarly the comment accusing me of "immaturity and intolerance", is a comment that didn't really add any useful information. In truth I'm not perturbed about what was written, I would just rather I hadn't spent a couple of seconds reading it. Well that is the internet I suppose. For me personally I never bother arguing on the internet, because people believe what they want to believe, and some people seem to have a lot of time to waste, so you're never going to win. In some ways a lot of the stuff I have posted is crap too, the time I spent posting on this forum would have been better spent studying. So now I think I'll follow my own advice.

Anyway thanks everyone for your comments, even the early ones :-)

Now it makes more sense.... I see your point.
Well I can't speak on the behalf of fabrice but in my opinion this is a necessary evil.
It's like working as a group . 90% of the time consumed could be considered "wasted" because it's not totally relevant , because there are redundancies , because some people in your group are a really pain in the ass and seem playing devil's advocate just for the sake of arguing..... but it's not about internet . It's about communication. It's not about content , it's about relationship : by listening , arguing even when you know it's more or less pointless  you don't really talk about the subject you talk about you and your relation with the person you're talking to , you show that you're open minded , poised to make effort to understand and communicate , to alleviate his fears and doubt sometimes.

If you want 100% efficiency you'd better work alone . For some project it's clearly the best way . But if you don't accept to "lose time" then you can't work with others. And it's a tremendous mistake not get accustomed to it . Because in real life you can't block the dumbass who is making a mess of your time and who's part of your work goroup.... you just have to deal with it and hope that by the end of the project he will show some value for the group ...  the group will respect you because of your communication skills and THAT turns out to be an asset of unfathomable value  when you want to work with others on a long term.

But once again I defitenely got your point , I lead a five person work group and it occurs several times a week. 仕方がない
