It would be cool though if there was some kind of Anki OCR plugin. Hmmm...

After writing Capture2Text, I now have some OCR experience. Maybe I will include OCR in subs2srs itself in some future update.

Edit: I did a couple minutes of testing with the Tiger and Dragon subtitles and it worked very well.

Nice! Seems like it would allow for consistent, optimal accuracy (within the OCR's current limitations).

I wrote a quick standalone program so that I could experiment with using OCR on Vobsubs:

vobsub2text is a utility that uses OCR technology to automatically convert
VOBSUB subtitles (.idx/.sub) to subrip (.srt) subtitles

Japanese, Chinese and English language vobsubs are supported.

http://subs2srs.sourceforge.net/vobsub2text/vobsub2text_v0.50.png

Download vobsub2text v0.50 via MediaFire (source code is included)

Requires the .Net Framework and Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7.

----

After some more experimentation I plan integrate OCR into subs2srs for use with VOBSUB subtitles.

Hey guys,

So after struggling for a day I finally got subs2srs to open up on my MacBook, but unfortunately the decks it was creating weren't working at all.  I imported the files using the predmade Anki template they provide in the program AND lined up all the tabs etc.  But nothing worked.

So, I went down stairs and used one of my buddies PCs to create a deck.  Low and behold, everything went extremely smoother on a Windows machine.  Unfortunately, when I tried to export the deck that was working fine on his machine, and import it into mine..... epic fail.  I really don't understand whats happening.

The media folder is there, with all the files necessary.  Everything is listed with the proper names.  When I open up the deck no audio plays and it shows a number:

1_001_0.00.17.917

When I flip the card, it only shows the english translation, not the Japanese subtitle either.

I'm really at a loss, this is unnervingly frustrating.  I spent all day yesterday on this.  Maybe its time to just shell out some money and do my Japanese stuff on a little Netbook....

Read the following (though it sounds like you already have):
http://subs2srs.sourceforge.net/#importing_into_anki

Keep in mind that the format of the .tsv file doesn't change based on Windows or Mac. So as long as Anki doesn't have an import bug on the Mac version, you shouldn't have any problems. If you think it would help, email me the .tsv file or the deck that you imported from. Usually when something like this happens, the user has incorrectly setup the fields in the Anki import dialog. The important thing to remember is that the tag is always the first field of the .tsv file and the sequence number (the 1_001_0.00.17.917) is always the second. Another common mistake is not placing the .media folder in the same location as the .anki file.

Think it's time I try this on Nobuta wo Produce and Tiger & Dragon. I assume when it's integrated into Subs2srs the user has the option for both ocr'd text and vobsub image to be extracted into the same .tsv file.

For now, I believe it's a small matter to OCR the vobsub to get an srt script. Then one runs subs2srs using both vobsub and srt to get a s2s .tsv for easy quality control.

Guess I can try openoffice calc to about displaying the .tsv where you see the vobsub images in the blocks. Makes for easier quality control.

That's the plan.

I have a bit more experimentation to do though, like comparing NHocr vs Tesseract.

Hey cb4960,

Thanks for the generous offer but I figured it out!  Very very exciting!!  smile

Turns out I actually needed to put the media files in my public dropbox folder.  Man, things are really looking up this evening!

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 here (with the .dll download given some posts ago) and the audio is ripping fine and the subtitles are showing up on Anki alright, but I can't seem to be able to get the snapshots or video. The former shows up as a small question mark in a blue box, while the latter doesn't appear at all. Oh, and the snapshots also don't show up when I use the 'Preview' feature on the program.

Open settings.txt and set force_legacy_ffmpeg = false. Or if it's currently false, set it to true.

Works like a charm! Thanks a lot! BTW, this program is amazing... now I just need to find Japanese subtitles -- still really hard to come by sad

Are they? You're already familiar with the .jp subtitle resources we've posted here, right?

Well, if you are talking about this thread: http://forum.koohii.com/viewtopic.php?pid=23035#p23035

I have already checked out everything there, but it seems none of my favourite anime (Soul Eater, One Piece, Case Closed, Ghost in the Shell) are there. Well, there is actually an One Piece episode somewhere there, but it's already 50 episodes back or something; never watched it actually. I've tried searching around anidb.net to see if there are Japanese subtitles uploaded by some groups like in torrents or something, but there was only one -- and it was in English *grin*.

Transcripts might be easier to find though. I've found one for Ghost in the Shell (link is somewhere around here, gotta search for it...), but I'd have to set the timings for every subtitle and stuff in order for it to work with subs2srs...

On the kitsunekko site, you can find the first 5 episodes of GITS: SAC, just search for "Stand Alone Complex".

Also you can find the Ghost In The Shell 2.0 movie (search for "ghost").

It also has 2 older episodes of One Piece (ep425 and ep450).

So by "Japanese subtitles are still really hard to come by" you just meant "a few of your favourite anime"? ;p So you know about the Japanese subtitle resources for other media also, then? i.e. Films, dorama.

Hey cb4960, how do I make Custom Media Player 2 play bassplayer with a lower volume? I tried the /vol thingy you used for zplayer but it broke it so I changed it back.

Currently there is no option to change the volume. However, adding said option should be fairly trivial. I'll probably get around to it on Friday.

Download bassplayer v2.0 via MediaFire

usage:
bassplayer [-ver] [-vol n] <file>
  -ver: Print the version information.
-vol: Set the volume. Range [0-100]. Default: 100.

Make sure that bassplayer.exe and bass.dll are in the same directory.

How to use with Custom Media Player 2:
audioPlayer = ["bassplayer.exe", "-vol", "20"]

Ouch. Something's weird. It changes the volume for my entire computer!

Now we're talkin'! Thanks! Well, I guess it works, everything sounds low and crackly to me right now. I'll check again when my ears stop bleeding and I get new listening hardware.

Hello,

I have just released version 21.2 of subs2srs.

Download subs2srs v21.2 via SourceForge

This is a minor release:

+ In the Advanced Subtitle Options dialog, changed the maximum number of leading/trailing lines from 2 to 9. This was changed because Anki v1.2 has better support for importing a large number of fields.

+ Recreated the Anki templates using v1.2.

+ (Windows) Upgraded ffmpeg to version 26397.

Hi!
Since subs2srs doesn't work for me know somehow, I guess I need to do this:

http://miszacus.net/index.php?a=uiaatkbridge

But where do I put the file I've downloaded then? xP
