I just got to Lesson 27 today (mid 900's) and I have found much good use out of the Mr. T. primitive for person. I was just curious, who came up with the Mr. T. idea? And thanks!

Fool! No one comes up with Mr. T, the Kanji are all just aspects of Mr. T. Especially 痛、怖、恐、and 撃.

That user mysteriously died starting his car when the spark caused a massive explosion.  Some of those stories weren't very kind to Mr. T.

Well when I said who came up with Mr. T., I didn't mean Mr. T. himself, because he already exists. I meant who was the person who came up with the idea to use Mr. T. as the primitive for it.

Considering the round about way Shrek came to be used for the finger primitive, I'm guessing it's a bit collaborative. Anyone willing to lay claim to using Mr. T first (despite the painful and gruesome death that will ensue)?

I've been more partial to Batman for the person primitive myself.

Maybe it's because the 'person' radical is sorta T-shaped.

I use Arnold Schwarzenegger myself, 'cause before I started using this site, that's what another site with RTK stories used, and he was a brilliant choice. Arnold could be anything: an action hero, a politician, a bodybuilder, a doofus who doesn't know what he's talking about... and yet it's still specific and vivid enough that I virtually never forget the radical or put it where it doesn't belong.

You don't understand, it is Mr.T who chose to be the primitive, nobody chooses for him!

I really liked the Mr. T primitive, it was easy to use for pretty much any kanji with the person primitive in it. I didn't know much about Mr. T either, but the image of an angry and often violent black man who pities the fool was very useful to me.

I used Laura Croft from Tomb Raider for the primitive.  There is just so many situations you could put her in.

I used the Dalai Lama because I wanted something positive to think about creating stories.  In most of my shared stories I used the generic "person" thinking most other users would not be able to relate to him.

I thought it might be good to use someone who's name started with the letter "I" though since it looks like a katakana イ

He certainly does.

I used the Dalai Lama too, but then Mr. T stormed into my imagination and kicked his ass.

Oh, I see.  You think I mean the cuddly playful Dalai Lama.  That is the side people refer to as Avaloketeshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.   All bodhisattvas have  compassionate, wisdom and power aspects.  This is the Dalai Lama's power aspect.  He is called Mahakala in this form by the Tibetans:

LMAO.

I *REALLY* want to add that to the One hanzi, one picture thread. Anyone know a good kanji featuring 月/肉/牛 and イ?

I'm still learning, but is it not that Avaloketeshvara is the same as 觀世音【かんぜおん】 from Japanese Buddhism? And is the Dalai Lama considered a Boddhisatva by Tibetan Buddhists? I know they consider him a reincarnation of the previous Dalai Lama, but I didn't know about him being considered a Boddhisatva. Thanks if you can explain this to me.

Yes, it is the  same Bodhisattva.  This will be the last Dalai Lama  though.  He stated he will not be reborn as such in his  next life.
